Vegan Rant Ahead

I've been vegetarian since my Sophomore year of high school.  And vegan since my Sophomore year of college.

It obviously comes up in conversations with people, but for the most part I shrug and pretty much say Different Strokes for Different Folks, I'm vegan but more power to you and your choices.  However, I bought Jonathan Safran Foer's Eating ( Read more... )

Amen.

The other day I was at the Canadian National Exhibition. They have a farm pavilion. I just felt sick, when I saw people standing around going "look at the cute cows" or "look how sweet those piglets are" while a sign above their pens said "Ontario Beef" and "Ontario Bacon." It really upset me that the people in the pavilion could look at these animals as adorable, but the next day have them on their plate.

I feel amazing since I'm became a vegetarian and even better since I transitioned to vegan. I'll never go back.

While I'm not quite sure I agree that there could be something more productive done with farming land (I feel it would merely go to more manufacturing or more housing and strip malls), I do have an issue with most farming. America still believes in the yeoman but that's so far from the truth, it's not even funny. I know a few small farmers; my family has many in it. But the vast majority of farming is done by Cargill (and other corporations) and what they do to the land, people (aka the small farmers), and what we eat is disgusting. Obviously, I eat because I have to, but I get very upset by the political side of agriculture because Cargill continues to ruin us and our food because Americans refuse to acknowledge the different environment of farming nowadays.

Yeah, you dislike meat. I really dislike farming subsidies.lol

My FAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE line is "I love my dog so much and I support animal rights" yet there they are sitting there eating a cows flesh. How can you love animals but not all of them?! Ah.

I so know how you feel. People always make me feel like I am the weird and wrong one. Like because eating the flesh of something living like a zombie is so normal. I have heard it all! "If we weren't made to eat meat why do we have these teeth?" Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should! At this day and age people can live without meat and animal by products to survive and looking around at the world they would be much healthier too.
