So...
let's get this started.

What is some vocab that SICE students wish they had known/found especially useful or that people who have gone abroad found useful?

I wish I had known more vocabulary to talk about stuff in the house - like sheet and pillow and cabinet or table, etc. in Mexico. And more specific food vocab. For example I didn't know the names of lots of nuts and spices or baking ingredients so it was really hard when my host mom tried to cook with me, she had to show me everything and say what it was before I could help her by handing her stuff etc.
I also wish I'd known more about the governmental structure of the country and the specific state I was visiting but that was mostly because there were a couple of strikes while I was there and strikes are REALLY rare in Mexico apparently.

Would it be weird to ask the host family to put little labels on things, like "door knob" and "cabinet"? I remember someone who studied in Germany did that... Or we could always use the trusted code lock system XD

I think it depends on your host family. If you feel comfortable, ask, but if you get the feeling they would feel odd about, don't. I'm really not sure. You might be able to do it in your room, anyway.

Hi everyone~ I got omiyage for my students today but i was wondering how feasible it would be to do something for Sukkot or Channukah? I've heard we will probably do something for Thanksgiving and Halloween, but do you think it would be possible to do something for some Jewish holidays? If so I will probably buy some things for that...

I think you could. It would probably have to be worked out with your teacher, but it sounds like most of them let you do stuff if you plan it and talk to them. It would be really cool for the students, I think, so you should try! You could also probably ask Erin or Yuki.
