Scraps Post!

Oct 11, 2013 12:54

I've been pretty stuck lately with writing, and I think my solution is finally just to scrap the 3 things I've been attempting to work on and admit that they're not interesting or developed enough, premise-wise, for me to continue. I just need to start fresh with something, maybe the sequel to mpreg fic that me and Sekrit talked about at Disney ( Read more... )

Noooo! RIP, Burning Man fic. I feel a little sad about this, aw. Thanks for posting these scraps.

(More actual thoughts after I finish reading.)

I knowww, I did love Burning Man fic conceptually, but hopefully you'll see why I let it go when you read the scrap. It could have been cute-ish but I just stared at it for so long and eventually was willing to take this as a sign that it wasn't meant to be -- I think it was the AU element that ultimately made me decide that it just didn't make enough sense to pursue.

This is what you said when you posted that mpreg scrap years ago and I got to the end and I was like "fuck no" and did not see why you let it go. But, I can totally understand just needing to cut some fics off. I'm with you on that.

TRUE but I eventually did the Herbert Garrison mpreg fic, which I think was a better version of the initial mpreg vision! I hope one thing I'm getting better at as I get older is eliminating stuff that isn't awesome in favor of stuff that could be awesomer.

Okay, okay, so this is actually the most important thing:

>> maybe the sequel to mpreg fic that me and Sekrit talked about at Disney World

My only reaction to which is, !!!!! Because I'm honestly not sure any more enthusiasm on my part would communicate anything new on the subject. But, yeah!

As for these scraps, well, I'm sad to see them go. In terms of lab rats, you know what's interesting? I kept thinking about it as a story in Craig terms, so it was interesting to see that though Craig is looming over what you've written, indeed the catalyst for the whole plot, he's not actually in the story up to this point. The group banter in this is really well done, with Cartman making fun of Kenny for only being able to afford a lame game, and the set-up of the arcade as a kind of collective gathering space where everyone would have seen this freak-eyes Craig thing go down feels very real. The boys in this are reading very much their age, which is something I love in general and about your writing in particular. I guess this scrap has ( ... )

I'm behind on everything but I just wanted to thank you for your comments on these! And for encouraging the practice of posting scraps - it really helped me get over my blocked misery.

I'm just excited that you posted these, even though on some level it just desperately made me sad that the Burning Man fic will never happen. If I suspected you had more scraps I would bug you to post them...

Awww, I'm mostly sad to see Lab Rats go. While I read almost anything you write, I definitely prefer stories where they get together young and they go through something together... with a happy ending. Cartman/Kyle in any form turns my stomach and AUs often take away my favorite aspect of Style--that bond from childhood--so I selfishly don't mourn the others.

An mpreg sequal sounds exciting, though. It's been a while since the War AU finished and I was keeping my fingers crossed for something new soon.

ugh, yeah, I wish I hadn't gotten so stuck on that one. I think it was an issue of bad timing more than not being a good idea. Maybe I'll return to it if I get inspired by some other government captivity type plot.

Something new is up! Just a little Halloween story. After that I think I'm going to finish this completely nuts Warrior Culture AU thing where Stan and Kyle are married soldiers who fight together asdoifjd. Thanks for the comment!

FTR, I would've read 20k words of the boys held in a government facility, learning how to use their powers, and been 100% enraptured. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut these things don't always work out, I know. And I gobble up anything you write, because you are fantastic.

Yeah, I wish I would have finished that one back when it had more momentum, because I think it could have been good. I guess it's not entirely impossible that I'd return to it! Thanks for the encouragement, anyway, and for the comment. So glad you're reading these!
