GangStarr - Moment of Truth
Nobody's invincible no plan is foolproof
We all must meet our moment of truth
It's universal, you play with fire it may hurt you
or burn you, lessons are blessings you should learn through
But just as you'll receive what is comin to you
Everybody else is gonna get theirs too
Actions have reactions, don't be quick to judge

I am sorry, but I came across your journal. I have to tell you that I completrly understand. I never had an abortion, and probably never will. But I do understand why you are doing it. I feel such sorrow reading it, have tears in my eyes. This is not the end of the world and you will live through it. My best friend had 3 abortions in one year. Its been at least 8 years and the pain from the experience has gone away. I hope everything will be alright with you. Be strong.

i know you a little bit, but this isn't the type of thing i want us to bond over.

i was 16 or 17 when my girlfriend was impregnated.

she told me it was mine, but it also might have been one of my friends.

i couldn't support the child financially or emotionally. i pressured her into getting an abortion. i paid for it.

we went to a small women's clinic in our hometown. the procedure was done, fetus aborted, uterus shredded. she was weak. we went back to my house and slept. her mom came and picked her up (we never told her what we were going to do.)

it was the only option we had, as far as I'm concerned. I'm not going to lie and say that I don't think about it every now and then. i feel shitty about it sometimes.

pft.

I personally oppose abortion (but not the right to have one, which is an important distinction) on the grounds that we simply do not know when human life begins or specifically at what point a clump of cells enters personhood. We can make scientific best guesses, but in my -opinion- this is not sufficient to overcome the potential to be killing someone every time an abortion is committed.

That said, I too greatly respect your putting this into the public light. More discussion will only help and never hinder.

Babies start with a twinkle in the eye, so if you don't know when life starts, even abstinence is murder.

If you're going by consciousness and pain, you better, at least be vegetarian before you start worrying about fetuses.

I am a spiritual person. Is "ensoulment" a word? Probably not. Let's coin it!

There :)

Babies start as a distinctive organism (human or not) at the termination of the fusion of sperm and egg.

I'm going by "when human soul gets applied to distinctive organism." Who the hell knows when that is? God, I suppose, if you believe in him, but then I don't think you have to believe in the Christian/monotheistic God to believe in souls, either.

But why? Why the fusion? Why not just the sperm or egg's creation if you're going for organisms (sperm or eggs can't survive on their own, or procreate, or any such, but neither can a zygote). Why an organism anyway? Why not a bunch of souls waiting for a place to go, looking at you sitting home on a Saturday night and yelling "asshole!"?

You are very brave, chica. I wish you the best.

People should worry less about banning abortion and more about making the alternatives to abortion better. People should always be able to choose.

And propaganda corrupts any message. *grumbles at propaganda*
