Nick knew that he'd been woefully remiss in introducing himself to the new arrivals in the lab. But things happened, like life and projects and island hijinx like toys come to life in a murderous rampage ( Read more... )

There's something to be said for how much Hank tends to keep to himself in the lab. There's a lot of his research that he's previously been guarded against sharing with other people; much of it having to do with the selective loss of mutation on the island. But even if he hasn't met Nick Stokes, he's heard the name before, and he's seen the other man around the lab on occasion.

"Oh, hi," Hank replies, looking up from the microscope at one of the work stations, "Hank McCoy. I've seen you around here."

"Yeah, I'm around every now and then," he said with a smile. With so many real scientists about, Nick knew that the lab was in constant supply of work, and he felt less need to sit about and invent things to do. His specialty was crime scenes, not unlocking the mysteries of the universe.

Besides, that council gig came with a ton of paperwork.

"I figured I'd just pop over and introduce myself, if you've got a couple of minutes. I don't want to keep you from your projects. Just like to try to put names to faces and all here."

"No, it's okay," he replies, turning around in his chair. The sample will keep for quite some time. Besides, it's not as if it's not one of the same tests he's run at least once a week since arriving on the island. And maybe it goes against science, but on the island, there's always a chance that the results will turn out different this time.

"This is probably more important, actually," Hank adds, standing, "Sorry I just kind of... jumped in around here. I guess you probably know how it is, getting settled?"

"Oh, it's no problem," Nick said with a wave of his hand. "Nothing would ever get done around here if people just didn't jump right in and get to work. Everyone here knows what they're good at and what they want to work on, best way to do it."

"Getting settled, well." Nick shrugged. "I've been here a really long time, but yeah, I know what you mean." Sometimes, it still felt like yesterday, being dumped onto the island. He had issues of his own to cope with when he'd arrived, before he was well enough to work or contribute in any meaningful way, but when he was well, the first thing he did was go to work. "Finding something familiar like work, makes the whole place make a little more sense."
