Technical Question

I have a desktop system. I haven't plugged it in for 3-4 years. I apparently changed the administrator password without updating the hint 'cause the password isn't taking. Meaning I can't upgrade/patch anything on the system, etc. *There is much shame and embarrassment

Having the desktop back up and running would rule.

I will, in fact, read the article. I'm learning that I will likely be more interested in the workings of these machines. I may be going for some sort of IS certificate after I finish my MS. This machine will be eventually getting a new hard drive and may become my linux sandbox.
