Living together is maddening in that I really love it but wish he would do the fucking dishes sort of way.

Bingo!! It was the same way with Nick and I. At one point we had FRUIT FLIES, and I went nuts trying to kill them and he'd always tell me he'd take care of it tomorrow and never did...boys are just gross sometimes.
