[Nepeta couldn't say that she was particularly fond of the lab, but she knew she was hardly alone in that sentiment. She was a girl who had grown up in the wild, surrounded by dirt and forest--a cold, dingy, mechanical place like this made her feel particularly restless and alienated. That was probably why she didn't often stay in the computer lab ( Read more... )

[It just so happened that Karkat was walking along the corridor leading to this little room. He wasn't in the best of moods. Of course, lately, he was never in the best of moods. He was even less tractable than normal because, on top of everything else, he was finding that more and more people were stashing shit in his 'secret' room. Kanaya's dresses were okay. The honey hives were okay. Hell, even Horsearoni was a-o-fucking-k on his own. But when it was the dresses and the hives and the fiduspawn monster? Hell no. There was hardly any space for his own crap.

He hadn't started to come this way to look for somewhere to put it all, though. No, he'd just let his angry feet take him along this way, slamming against the cold tiles as they went. He was brooding, like some rainbowdrinker mired in manpain from one of Kanaya's worst novels, but he had a lot to brood over right now. Was that Jack he saw? Were these humans worth trolling? The fuck was that dream? Why had Kanaya chainsawed off Tavros' legs in the middle of the fucking labs, oh ( ... )

[Karkat could not make his approach any more obvious if he tried. She had already heard his stomps growing closer and closer even before he had opened the door. She hadn't expected him to--figured it was an accident from the way he looked--but now that he had she thought some company might be nice to have. It had been a while since she talked to any of the others.]

Hey, wait! Why don't you stay here fur a bit?

[He had already turned when she called after him, but rather than keep going, he stopped. Talking to Nepeta was something he tried to avoid every so often. Skirting around her obvious crush was awkward and made him even more crabby than he usually was.

All the same, this lab was a lot different from her home. It was different from everyone's hives, but she'd always been a lot more open to the elements than the others. Being surrounded by technology and cold, harsh metal and stone was probably just a bit too much for her. She was probably lonely, in a homesick sort of way.

His shoulders slumped and he gave a sigh, but turned back around and walked in.]

Fine. I'm not doing anything.

[It was almost ridiculous how much this small concession on his part seemed to make her happy. She sat up a bit taller and smiled brightly, and her tail seemed to wag back and forth in a manner more reminiscent of a happy and excited puppy than a cat. Karkat had pretty much hit the nail on the head. While she kept her mouth shut, since she knew no one was exactly happy about the situation, being in a place like this really got under her skin. Having some company while she painted would have been nice, but considering it was Karkat, it was even nicer.

She scooted down a bit, patting the ground next to her.]

I have some extra paint brushes if you'd like to paint too.
