There is so much I want to write about HIMYM. I honestly was never expecting to care as much as I did about it; I thought it would just be a fun show to watch. BUT I LOVE EVERYONE, SO MUCH. And I literally ship every possible pairing that exists.
I thiiiiiiiiiiiink my favourite episodes are Swarley and Slap Bet. I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard in my life as I did at "turn around Chloe!" I’ve watched them both like 5 times. Love Sandcastles in the Sand too, Robin Sparkles is just the best thing in existence. Robin was my absolute favourite by far in the first two seasons, but her awesome kind of decreased in the next few seasons. She was still awesome, but I didn’t love her to quite the same degree, TOTALLY THE WRITER’S FAULT. Marshall is fucking delightful, I absolutely love him, and Lily is hilarious and so the mother of the group, I love them together so much. Ted’s adorable; I think I would get on amazingly well with him. Barney is hilarious and I love how this bravado act hides this more vulnerable interior. I used to get so annoyed with Barney would win FMM because all I knew about him was that he was a manwhore, but I get it completely now. I think the delightfulness of NPH just shines through, plus he gets the funniest storylines. I JUST WANT TO REWATCH IT RIGHT NOW, AND I ACTUALLY MIGHT.
I made a banner of all the ships! It was too hard to resist. I don’t think I have ever actively shipped every single possible pairing in a show before. I'm not really keen on Marshall/Ted, because I feel like they’re too close friends. But everyone else, I love!
I do actually want to talk about Barney/Robin a little bit though, because my love for them just blindsided me and is untainted by season 5. I don’t know, for me they will always be Barney smashing tvs in an alley because he doesn’t know how to express his feelings, his face when she suited up, him mock flirting with her and stroking her thigh and whispering in her ear (I watched the commentary and NPH said one of the things he whispered was: "when you spread your legs, it makes me think of the sushi cart at craft service." LOL FOREVER. Same commentary: he talked about how Cobie uses tongue when they make out and he loved that she did that because to him that's a sign of good acting, THEY ARE SO WONDERFUL), "you just Mosbeyed me!", her looking after him when he was sick, HIM CLEANING ROBIN AND TED’S APARTMENT IN A SUIT SO THAT THEY WOULDN’T HAVE ANY MORE FIGHT-SEX, her being the most awesome person he has ever known (not including himself) and I'M IN LOVE WITH TACOS.
Also I watch this Barney/Robin fanvid five times a day (perhaps an underestimate), it is charming. I love the song choice, and the editing would usually seem jarring to me, but it works somehow in this case.
But yes, I was told by everyone not to watch s5, which I am abiding by. (Although I did watch the first few episodes, I admit it, but I stopped at Bagpipes and will not be continuing - UNLESS THERE'S A FEW INDIVIDUAL EPISODES THAT ARE OKAY? I'm finding it hard to let go). I really liked the first one, and Bagpipes, and Robin 101, but I haaaaaaaaaaated the second episode (ROBIN WOULD BE FINE WITH STRIP CLUBS, DEAR GOD STOP DESTROYING HER CHARACTER) and The Sexless Innkeeper. A lot of the jokes were really distasteful this season too. I hate it when they make fun of a) girls for being fat/ugly/whatever and b) the stupid Canada jokes. They were actually amusing when they’d have Robin mispronouncing a word or something (aboot!) but spending a whole episode going AMERICA IS GREAT, CANADA SUCKS LOLOL was so annoying. Also I read some interview with Carter Bays that was like "people don’t want to see Barney in a relationship wearing sweater vests and visiting bed and breakfasts, we know that they think they want Barney and Robin together but WE KNOW BETTER, they totally don’t." I thought that was incredibly douchey. I’m going to tell you exactly what I want: Barney and Robin to redefine "relationship". Guess what, not every couple in the world is a Lily/Marshall. They didn’t even have to be monogamous as far as I was concerned. I just really wanted to see how they would make something different work for them, but they obviously had no idea how to do that and just gave up trying, with the excuse "people prefer slutty Barney". WTF. Also I could sense the show was becoming The Barney Stinson show, which may have been semi-inevitable considering how famous NPH is now (and let me note: I FUCKING LOVE NPH AND MORE ON THAT LATER) but it is losing track of the point of the show, which is how Ted meets the freaking mother! Also apparently HIMYM comes out with the same shit Bones does - this concept that when you meet the mother the show will be cancelled (I ACTUALLY SAW THE FUCKING MOONLIGHTING CURSE MENTIONED IN THIS FANDOM TOO, IF I EVER HEAR THAT PHRASE AGAIN I AM GOING TO PUNCH SOMEONE). But seriously, what the fuck? It’s not like Ted’s going to meet her and start popping out the kids that day (although if he doesn’t meet her soon, he’s going to have to so that the kids ages in the future makes any sense at all!)

Anyway sometime over the past few weeks I have developed an ... extreme NPH obsession. I always had this unexplained fondness for him, but now, my god. His singing voice is divine, he is so hot (JIZZ IN MY PANTS), and he and his boyfriend are the cutest people in existence. Also I love him for the same reason I love Gillian Anderson - he is brutally honest in interviews. It’s charming. (He had sex with Christine Taylor (Ben Stiller’s wife) when he was a teenager and trying to deny being gay. I find this hilarious). ALSO THE DUDE IS AN HONEST TO GOD MAGICIAN! WHAT EVEN? How does he exist???

Neil and Jason perform a Les Mis scene on a talk show. When Megan Mullally bursts out laughing and clasps her hand over her mouth, I am always always having the exact same reaction as her. THEY ARE SUCH BFFS AND I AM IN LOVE WITH THEM. Who even does this? My heart cannot handle it. Imagine them practising that all the time! ♥_♥
You just got slapped -- Jason Segal is delightful, and the part where Barney joins in my heart explodes with joy. SO ADORABLE. I love how this show can just be like "I’ve composed a song! Let’s go play it now!"
NPH in Harold & Kumar -- JESUS CHRIST! DID YOU SEE THAT UNICORN? IT'S HORN WAS SO SHINY! I burst out laughing every. single. time.
Also on that note, I've become re-obsessed with Dr Horrible. I actually watched it months ago, and made an entry about it that I ended up saving in word and never actually posting, so here it is.
The conclusions I made were a) I want to sing "Every Little Thing He Does is Magic" every time I see anything Joss Whedon is involved with, b) Joss’s love for musicals is my favourite thing, c) Joss’s song writing ability is astounding, and d) THE CAST IS SO DELIGHTFUL, my goodness, Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day in one show was beyond amazing, and they’re all so talented! My favourite beyond a doubt was "My Eyes," I was absolutely blown away by it. It also had hints of Under Your Spell/Standing (Reprise) from Once More With Feeling, which I loved. I LOVE BUFFYVERSE MORE THAN PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING.
All I have to add to that is that you should watch My Eyes on youtube. From 1.45 onward, my mind is blown. Especially the split sceen part. Magical.
ALSO GUYS, NEW. EFFING. FLORENCE. Heavy in Your Arms. This is shit quality, but OHMYDEARLORD the song is amazing! Let's just not mention that it is going on the Eclipse soundtrack, because a part of me dies when I even think about it.
