so.. i feel like posting something. but i don't know what. today i wrote a story for nathan because he wanted a long e-mail.

Once upon a time there was a guy named Nathan. He was a great guy, but he had a stupid job. His job was OVERNIGHT GARBAGE MANAGER at the dump. It was really a bad job. All night he sat in a tower, high above the dump and watched the garbage. When he wasn't watching the garbage he was watching the security monitors, making sure no one was breaking in. When he wasn't watching the security monitors he was watching the fence monitor screen. All of the fences had sensors, so if anyone touched them a tiny light would flash on this screen. He hated the fence monitor screen most of all. On windy nights the lights would flash non-stop. The dump was in the middle of the woods and the trees hit the fence. The trees hit the fence and triggered the sensors, the lights flashed on the fence monitor screen. Nathan had to climb down the tower and go check the spot where the sensors were triggered. The tower was SO high! Up and down he went all night on windy nights. He always knew there was nothing there, but upper management required him to go check EVERY time.

Nathan wanted to quit his job. Every day he'd go home and his girlfriend Stacey would just be waking up. "Good morning, Hunbun!" She'd say as she passed him in the hall, on the way to their office. "Good night, Darlin'" He'd reply as he headed off to bed. Stacey would go into the office and start writing. She was a writer. She hadn't sold any of her stories yet, she mostly just wrote for Nathan. She'd spend all day writing a story and send it to work with Nathan. He would read it at work when the fence lights weren't flashing. He loved her stories. Sometimes she'd take a break from writing for a few hours and go grocery shopping or run errands. She kept the house running while Nathan worked and slept. When he woke up every evening she'd have dinner ready for him, along with some food for work and her latest story. They'd eat dinner and sit and chat, then watch some TV before Nathan had to go. Then he'd head to work and she'd go to bed. It was a vicious cycle, but he couldn't quit otherwise they'd have no money, no food, nothing!

The weekend was Nathan's favorite time of the week. Stacey and Nathan had a weekend ritual. When he got home from work on Saturday morning he would forgo sleep and head straight to the kitchen where Stacey had prepared a wonderful, hot breakfast. Pancakes, omelettes, French toast, Stacey could make it all. It was always delicious and filling and it gave Nathan a boost of energy for the rest of the day. They'd spend the morning watching old game shows and talking about the week ahead. Then in the early afternoon they'd go see a movie. They'd go to bed early so they could wake up early on Sunday. Sunday was hiking day! Stacey and Nathan went on a different hike every week. They'd been all over the city, sometimes driving 3 hours to where they were going to hike. They'd spend the whole day hiking and have a picnic lunch that Stacey would prepare on Saturday night. The weekend was a great time.

But Nathan always had to go back to work on Monday. He hated Mondays. He was always a little more tired than he was on any other day, and it always seemed to be especially windy on Mondays. One particular Monday it seemed to Nathan that he was spending more time checking on trees hitting fences than he was watching the garbage (and that was the most important task of all). He hadn't had any time to read Stacey's latest story, "Tommy the Turtle's Lost Turquoise Trousers". The day was NOT going well. Then he spotted someone on one of the cameras. A break-in! He shuffled down the ladder and darted through the dump to find the potential garbage thief. Seeing him hiding behind some old washing machine parts Nathan dove for the intruder and took him down. He zap-strapped the guy's hands behind his back and dragged him to the front gate. After calling the police he alerted his boss. "Great work!" his boss said, "I think we need to give you a promotion. You've caught far more thieves than the old OVERNIGHT GARBAGE MANAGER. You can be our new SUPER OVERNIGHT GARBAGE MANAGER!" That was the last straw. "That's not even a real job!" Nathan protested, "I decline your offer, and I QUIT!" Nathan slammed down the phone, climbed down the ladder and went home.

Stacey was shocked when he got there. She asked what happened and he explained. Then they both went back to bed. The next day instead of writing Stacey started looking for a job. Nathan slept through to the afternoon and when he woke up Stacey served dinner and excitedly told him, "Nathan! I found a job already! It's so wonderful! I'm going to be the OVERNIGHT GARBAGE MANAGER!!"

THE END

i'm really bad for starting stories without a plan in mind. i came up with the end and wished i had gone back to make it make sense. but i don't want to change it.

time for bed?
