And, sadly, how many more chances are there going to be to see Mr. Nimoy? Even if he lives another 20 years, he may decide that he doesn't want to do the Con circuit anymore. I saw him the day after Star Trek V came out.

USMLE Step III licensure exam, which gets taken sometime in the next two years? $670. Federation Credential Verification Service -- which is either a preferred or a *required* part of ultimate licensure, necessary for moonlighting, fellowship, or eventual practice? $295. Actually *applying* for that license? More multi-hundreds. The American Board of Internal Medicine Board Examination? $1230. Not counting the costs of interviewing for the next position, of course -- which might begin as early as 18 months from now. And waiting at the end of it all: the end of deferment of our student loans and the point the bank starts demanding the principal and interest on a loan the size of a morgage. By which point, between the recession and (necessary) health care reform... our salaries, well...
