I went to the International Education office in my school asking about the Egypt dismayt study abroad trip. Much to my dismay, they had cancelled the trip due to lack of interest. Which really surprised me, I mean, I expected the thing to be swarming with participants, but no such luck

I'm sorry about Egypt, though. And wtf, why would no one be interested? it's effing EGYPT.
The only thing I ever learned beyond my one year of Spanish is stuff concerning body language, which I cannot remember or re-check because a friends has the book I learned it from. But, since I brought it up, if there is any way you can I would suggest reading up on Spanish non-verbal communication as well, including proxemics.
All I do seem to remember is that in Italy, even something as innocent as eye contact from a girl is considered flirting, and they control the flow of conversation quite literally with their hands. Or something.

Yeah, I am a little bummed about Egypt, only because I'd actually been PREPARED to go there. But Mexico will sill be really awesome.
Good thinking with body language stuff, I hadn't thought that it would be too different from here. Good to see if any hand gestures'll get me killed like in some parts of the world @.@

Thank you for all the great tips! It's stuff like this that'll help me get along and not piss people off 8D as well as survive the trip, of course. In all seriousness, I'm not exceptionally street-smart, where I live you really don't have an oppertunity to be, so I'm glad that you're pointing out the big issues. I especially thank you for all the pointers against getting raped/robbed/killed. I'm waaaay too trusting of people, so if I'm going into an environment where no one can be trusted, it's good to know ahead of time that people might not have the best intentions for me.
But anyway, I'll try to start learning Spanish and hopefully we can start having conversations on YOUR turf! XD
