[She's out running errands when she sees the other girl out of the corner of her eye and stops. Was that just...? Hikari snaps her neck in Naoto's direction. At a distance, with her back angled toward her, it looks like...]

Amane...senpai? [her heart is pounding and her legs are almost numb with relief as she walks closer, picking up the pace to a jog...]

[---Oh. She slows to a stop just a few yards away. It isn't Amane at all... No, too short, for one...and just all wrong. She sighs, shoulders slumping. Of course...it was silly to even think so. Now she feels a little ridiculous, dashing across the plaza like that.]

[Though Naoto doesn't catch the young girl dashing towards her, the white puppy next to her does. His tail starts wagging but it stops when she stops. Aww you're not going to come and pet him? Naoto looks down to notice Kuzunoha looking in a different direction]

What is it? [She takes a step back to turn and look Hikari. She looks disappointed. Normally Naoto wouldn't indulge herself in asking why a stranger looks the way they do but she's curious] Can I help you?

[Ack! She straightens herself up, trying not to look like her hopes and dreams were just crushed.]

Oh! Um... [how is she supposed to explain?] I just thought you were...someone I know... I'm sorry, my mistake. [bowing apologetically]

[Well that's a first. No one has ever really mistaken her for someone. But she shakes her head]

There's no need to apologize, it's a completely understandable situation. Though I am curious as to why you look so disheartened. Was this person you mistook me for important?

[slowly rising out of the bow to look at the other girl. The question surprises her, but on second thought, it really shouldn't. She isn't so good at masking her feelings.]

Yes...she's a very important friend of mine. ["Friend." That word pangs a little. And yes, she does realize you're a girl, Naoto. Lesbian, attending an all girls school...she has sensors.]

I see. [It's understandable why someone would be sad about not having that one important friend around, especially in this place.

Since Naoto isn't budging, the puppy beside her slowly makes his way over to Hikari, sitting himself down right in front of her] Well the new cycle will soon commence so perhaps this friend of yours will arrive here.

[The puppy finally catches her attention; oh look, a welcome distraction] --Ah, hello there. [She crouches down to let him sniff her hand before petting him.

now looking back up at Naoto] Maybe... It would be really wonderful. [Perhaps Amane wouldn't remember still, but even then...there was always a possibility...]

[Puppy loves attention. He's just going to stay still with his tail sweeping the ground as she pets him.

She nods] I do hope you are reunited with your friend. [Oh right, might as well introduce herself while she's at it.] My name is Naoto Shirogane.

[Aw, he's so cute. More pets, before standing up again.] That's very kind of you to say, Naoto-san. And nice to meet you - I'm Hikari Konohana.

[Kuzunoha stands up when she does, circling around her once while barking before making his way back over to Naoto]

Your dog is very cute. What's her name? ...Ah, or his. [hard to say ;;;]

I believe it's a boy and his name is Kuzunoha, named after Kuzunoha Raidou the detective. [Bark from the puppy] Do you care for any animals?

No, not right now...but I'm waiting for a kitten. Someone's cat had a litter a few weeks ago, and the owner wanted to give all the kittens nice homes.
