So, you guys. I know I've been posting a lot recently, but this time it's not just venting, I'd really appreciate some input.

I know a lot of you have been to university or college, or are currently studying, or involved in some way. The question I really, really need some responses for is this: what has your university told you about the risk of ( Read more... )

Hmm. Well, Bristol told me precisely nothing, but they are known for their shite pastoral care. They do have a student counselling service, but that deals with people who have already been traumatised, nothing about prevention or anything else. I learned most of what I know from the internet.

Good old internet.

Anyway, yes. A group like that sounds quite productive - we have nothing like it here, and I think it would make everybody feel more comfortable. The problem would be getting people to take it seriously, sad but true.

Thanks, xryso.

I'm basically the same, didn't get anything from my uni until there was actively a string of 'incidents'. This is from the uni that created 'UniLad', so I don't hold out much hope, but at least I can say I tried. We've got a couple of people trying to help us, but I honestly doubt we'll get anywhere.

It'll be an interesting sociial experiment, if nothing else. Appreciate your help, though, thank you. <3

There's been a series of rapes that have occurred recently on my campus, and my university sent out this email on Wednesday ( ... )

That's really encouraging, I have to say. It's less so here in the UK, unfortunately. Thanks for replying, Avery. <3

I was surprised when we heard about rape up here; they said there have only been a few instances of rape a year (2-3 for the past five or so years) and they just said "be careful" and that "rape is a crime; it won't be tolerated". Nothing really there, but according to a friend date rape doesn't "count", so that they can keep their statistics really low. I wasn't at her seminar so I can't confirm 100% but it does sound like that's the case here - date rape isn't "real rape". Not exactly what you were asking for, but maybe it'll help?

That's really alarming, I have to say. Does that mean that you don't get university support if it's date rape? Because I think you should maybe talk to the uni about that?

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for answering - really appreciate it!
