from what i thought (completely off-hand without even opening a book), this is very true. the US was intensely concerned with Iran and put Saddam in charge, and hey! look where we are.

i mean put Saddam in charge of Iraq to watch out for Iran. it was the whole fear of communism issue and iran's ties to the USSR.
