I was dissing Swedish dairy products, comparing them to the huge variety and wonderul taste of Finnish dairy products, especially Valio ice cream. Fred got defensive and took out his patriotic book! Apparently Sweden has the most inventions in the world. I found these on the internet, couldn't find all the ones in the book:
Dynamite - Alfred Nobel (Sweden)
The Turbo Engine for Cars - Bengt Gadefelt at the SAAB 1976 (Sweden)
The Adjustable Spanner - J. P Johansson 1892 (Sweden)
The Zipper (Sweden)
Blowtorch - Carl Richard Nyberg 1881 (Sweden)
The Celsius Thermometer - Anders Celsius (Sweden)
Kerosene Stove - (Sweden)
The refrigerator without any moving parts (Sweden)

Moving on:
Victor Hasselblad (1906-78) devised a precision camera in 1948, with a system of interchangeable lenses, film magazines and viewfinders, based on a single lens reflex camera. One major success for Hasselblad came when his camera began to be used on U.S. voyages to the moon and elsewhere in outer space.
Nils Bohlin constructed the three-point seat belt which was introduced into Volvo cars as standard equipment as early as 1959.
Dialysis machine or "artificial kidney" devised in 1965 by Nils Alwall (1904-86) and Lennart Östergren
Electrophoresis - 1940s Arne Tiselius (1902-71) (All you IB students who take Biology should know what electrophoresis is).
Håkan Lans - His inventions have included the digitizer-a precursor of the computer mouse-and the fundamental principles of computer color graphics. He is also responsible for the further development of the US satellite-based Global Positioning System (GPS) into the GP & C Total System. Lans's system gives the exact position of a craft (vehicle, boat or plane) and information about all other traffic in the area. It has become the international standard in shipping (1999) and civilian aviation (2000).
Cheese Slicer - Thor Bjørklund (Norway)
Coca~Cola Bottle - Swedish-American Alex Samuelson
Milking Machine and Separator - Swedish inventor Gustaf de Laval
Ship's Propeller - Swede John Ericsson
Sound for the Movies - Finn Eric Tigerstedt attended in Helsinki the presentation of the new motion picture technology developed by the Lumière brothers and thought that movies would be better with sound.
Telephony
Ski (snow)
The Sauna is Finnish! and nothing beats the periodic table from Russia.
