Gee. I wonder who was spreading the rumor that there was one, and what their agenda were? I don't know enough to make a sane assessment of the situation, but it's not pretty, no matter how you slice it.
Oh, I did hear this rumor, btw, with the protecting the victim codicil and passed that to someone who posted an 'oh wow, I never liked this person' post--which may be the one fosveny is referring to. I hope not.
At least one person posted a long discussion on this site about the issues that surround the case in question, and removed (locked?) that post when told there was a gag order.
That was a misunderstanding of how gag orders work -- if you are not a named party in the gag order (and you would know if you were), the order does not apply to you.
Nor does it apply to things which are a matter of public record. Like, say, arrests.
Whether or not it's OK to tell people depends on your own conscience.
I am personally a *BIG* fan of NOT keeping things quiet. I think that secrecy begets tyranny. It also makes people think that there must be a reason that it was being hushed up.
I do tend to limit my public discourse to verifiable facts. "X is accused of Y. There was an arrest. X is free on (bail/recognizance)." type statements.

I tend to agree. Especially since there have been follow up actions takena and most people have no idea why.

YMMV, but this works for me.
