CMS don't need to have such nasty URLs. Look at the state of Oregon's web site -- which is totally managed through CMS. In fact, the content managers are the ones who get to choose the filenames/URLs of the pages.

If you are thinking about pursuing this -- bring me into it. I've worked with CMS as a content type, so I can talk to you about features and benefits.

Check this one out: http://drupal.org/. It's an open-source system that OSU (Oregon State University) is using.

Can you tell I like the idea of an open-source system?

While it's not a factor for the scale likely to be used here, Drupal's got some issues with heavy volume sites. Just sayin.

There's always the giant hammer approach of Joomla. Powerful stuff. ;)
