So my new Thinkpad T40 came today. I was actually in Delaware helping to move Cathy into her new apartment, but I got it when I got home. I started playing with it around midnight, and am now thoroughly pissed off (as I usually am with new systems). I hate all the crap that they put on there, while it's nice to have the drivers, there's just so ( Read more... )

We use Symantec Ghost at work, and it works out OK. I'm pretty sure you'll need to be able to get it on a network, unless there's another way to do it that I just haven't tried.

I use Ghost also. When I finally got my desktop the way I wanted, I ghosted it to a DVD and now re-installing is pretty easy since you can make the DVDs bootable.

I would use nLite and make a slipstream image. That way you can slipstream SP2, other hotfixes/patches, drivers, and other files into the OS, as well as automate the install process, tweak every setting under the sun, and potentially decrease the size of the installation. There's some pretty nifty tweaks that I didn't even know about.

Then i'd reinstall with that bootable iso, install all of your programs that you want, then use Ghost to image it =p nLite seriously increased my system speed by 300%. I'm in the midst of using my desktop to make an nLite iso for my laptop as well.

It was a comment about your "300%" faster remark. It reminds me of something a gentoo user would say, even if it's not true. That's not to say your machine isn't running faster, just that your comment reminded me of -O999999999999... (repeating of course) joke.
