My personal computer has been in a state of disrepair for a few days, now. A long while back, the motherboard's northbridge's heatsink/fan's fan crapped out, and I'm a lazy bitch, so I just unplugged it, plugged another fan in, plopped the new fan on top of the old one, and kept the case on its side so gravity would keep it in place. Sucks. =(

However, thanks for reminding me to clean out my fans. It's been a few months, and I'd hate to see my laptop meet the same fate as my brother's (he didn't clean the fan out for a good 18 months and *poof* buh-bye motherboard)!

Hm... My fan went out on my Asus v7700 (GeForce 2!) a couple years ago and Asus sent me a new fan for free.

Also, my brother's more modern (but still at least 2 year old) BFG card smoked a voltage regulator and BFG replaced the card.

yup. my solution would be the terribly wasteful american one of: buy a new one. i admire you(jim, even though i'm replying to sarah!) for knowing how to fix stuff.

my computer has been down for a couple of weeks now, pending harddrive/windows installation, and if i have to replace a fan which sounds shitty it will go down for another couple, no doubt.

i admire you too, jim. teach me to fix my stuff!
