In Tibetan Buddhism, all impermanent phenomenon are called composed phenomena because they are products of the aggregation of their causes. Within these aggregate causes, there are different types of causes. The first division is into direct and indirect causes. They can both be further divided into cooperative conditions and substantial causes.
I'd like to explain it, but I've just spent a full year studying these things and think that there is far to much related understanding needed to be able to present this view in a way that makes sense. I feel inadequate to express it in this limited space.
But, all impermanent phenomena has a cause and every cause is an effect for a subsequent moment.
