The trial in Liberty for one Antonio Fernández Carriedo has become something of a sensation in the city. Sitting across from the accused, I don't see a criminal; just a regular, relaxed, happy teacher. I interviewed Mr. Carriedo to show the readers of Lifestyle that perhaps there is more to this man than it seems. Antonio came to the meeting dressed casually and with a grin on his face; he's friendly and polite, and within minutes, things got down to business.
My first question was to ask why he took the job, and the answer I recieved wasn't surprising. He told me that he loved working with the kids and making them happy, and as he went into a description of his day at the daycare, his smile kept growing and growing. His kids are smart and being taught in both English and Spanish, an impressive feat. An early visit to the daycare showed that his kids adore him; Mister Carriedo is rather like a big kid himself.
Upon mentioning the charges, Mr. Carriedo's cheer never falters. He "knows he's innocent", he says, "While the charges are bad, they're not true, so I'm not worried too much." He denies any sort of special connection to the accusing child--and says that in fact, he's just moved to the school.
I asked Mr.Carriedo what he wanted to tell the people of Liberty, and he answered me honestly; he looked into my eyes and said he wanted the public to know he was innocent--and to know that he hoped it was all over soon.
As always, I ask for any reader follow up to this story--I'll be available for live chat at work today at 3 PM EST.
