Well, my first SAT score was 1990, and my second less than two months later was 2240. It just depends on the test, honestly; they're still working out the consistency kinks.
I took my SAT in October and then my SAT IIs in November, and just *barely* made the deadline for SCEA that way.
Oh, and take the ACT in September/October, for sure. Chances are if you aren't doing so hot on the SAT, ACT will be good for you. Plus if you have a graphing calculator, there's no way you won't ace the math (most of it is like "expand this polynomial!")
I recommend applying SCEA. I did, and if it's your first choice it is most definitely the best option.
I got like 1940 on my SATs. Totally failed the Math2 in SAT IIs. Even my mother, looking at my scores, told me I wasn't going to get in.
It's not about the numbers. Because that's all they are: just placeholders, ultimately irrelevant values. Stanford is more interested in real human beings with something to offer to the school and the community at large than they are interested in someone who devotes his or life to a 5.0 GPA and a perfect SAT score.
Don't sweat the numbers. There's more important things.
Don't jump on the SCEA bandwagon so fast. They really mean it when they say not to apply until you're ready. And they won't judge your application any less if you apply regular.
Well, if I don't make SCEA, wouldn't they defer me to the regular admission-?? The thing is, I am not sure where I should apply early if not Stanford. Thanks for your advice, though!
You would also run the risk of getting rejected. I'm not saying that you will get rejected because of your scores (particularly since I have no idea what they mean because I took the old test), but there's always that risk.
If you feel like your application will be stronger by the time the regular deadline comes around, you really should just do regular.
