Berkeley?

Note: this is not to start a flame war.

A person and I have had a "discussion" on the views of Stanford students toward Berkeley students. I think you'd be pretty hard-pressed to find a Cal student who thinks that Stanford students are "subpar" in any way. But I don't think it'd be too difficult to find a Stanford student who turns his nose up at ( Read more... )

I really don't think there is much of a rivalry from Stanford's side. Yeah some folks feel that way, I guess, but overall there isn't that much hostility I feel towards Cal ( ... )

In terms of what other people have said about how Cal students treat Stanford students, at times it gets quite bad. My ex-girlfriend goes to Cal and we were together for almost two years up here and whenever I went to go visit here, I was treated with quite a bit of hostility. On the other hand, when she came here, no one really minded ( ... )

Just to echo back some stuff that's been said, the whole Cal stereotype that Stanford students are a bunch of rich kids is total bullshit and actually is one thing that really bothers me. Yeah, I know some pretty rich kids and there are some royal family affiliates, but I'd say the vast majority of my friends here couldn't afford to attend without a significant amount of aid. When it comes down to numbers, Stanford pretty consistently offers better financial aid than most colleges; they offered me by far the best package out of all of the schools I got into, most of which were UCs like Berkeley ( ... )

I agree with you 100% about the income levels of students here. It's just that we have rich donors. That doesn't reflect on the whole student body... or even most of it.

Cal takes the rivalry more seriously than we do. So let that speaks for itself.

For me, I think the rivalry comes as a retaliation against all the flak I get from Cail students. I went to the Big Game at Cal my freshman year and afterwards I hung out with a friend of mine (who's a Cal student) and the other Cal students threatened to pour beer on me because I was wearing my Stanford sweatshirt.

Here's a video that I think depicts the Cal side of the rivalry pretty well. It may be biased, but it's real footage:

Come to think of it, the making of this video in itself is a pretty good reflection on Stanford students' general views, too.
