You always hear about the positives of Stanford. I certainly know why Stanford is as amazing as it is.

But now I'm wondering, what are the negatives of Stanford? What do you personally not like about the school? It could be anything--petty or not.

(The few that I've heard: Duck Syndrome, crazy bike people, location.)

hey nyucknyuck,

stanford really is awesome, amazing, all that you'd want in a college. i just absolutely have to say that before giving my criticisms.

i think i only have one major problem with stanford: its housing. i don't mean "the draw" in which you choose/get placed into which residences. i find some of the dorms humongous -- they're not conducive to making new or close friends and very conducive to forming cliques. secondly, the diversity is kind of overboard (houses/dorms/apts/frats/types of each...). ask around and get a fair opinion from everyone before you prioritize your freshman dorm choices. i think i would've been happier freshman year if i'd lived in a different dorm (i.e. smaller, and i'd've more strongly considered the boohoo'ed frosoco or sle).

all that said, please, come to stanford! you'll love it.

come to stanford!

Funnily enough, exactly that was written on the early approval letter. At any rate, Berkeley's decisions are out in a few days. =p

Thanks for the reply! =)

Thank you. =)

I had actually really considered symsys (well, cogsci is what I'd actually considered, though symsys is as close as it gets), but decided that what I want most is to double major in linguistics and computer science. Luckily, Stanford has top departments in both.

Then again, so does Berkeley. =p

Are you majoring in symbolic systems?

And are you a fan of Chomsky?
