FOREST PARTY IS GO

Feb 16, 2009 23:14

The scene is the clearing in the center of seemingly endless forest, late summer. Most of the trees are lush and green, though a few leaves have begun to turn yellow, and the temperature is comfortably warm. The sun hangs a few inches above the horizon and the sunset has turned all shades of orange and yellow and pink; however, it never seems to move to nightfall. Occasionally, a bird chirps or the leaves rustle as small animals move just out of sight (or, at least you hope they're small...watch out!).

Overall, the setting has a dreamlike quality, which is fitting, considering that the last thing your character remembers is pulling a blanket around themselves and drifting off to sleep.

These are the party settings. Your character is free to move between them or remain in one, but please, put the location in your subject bar so we can keep track of where people are! Do make a new thread for every interaction, though (as in, we should have multiple threads titled "The campgrounds," rather than all under one thread).

The lake:

The water in this medium-sized lake is dark, and the surface is still beyond the occasional rippling of the breeze...however, a small island in the center holds a strange-but-familiar fish-shaped statue spewing glitter from its open mouth, despite no visible power source. The depth of the water varies from a few inches to about fifteen feet deep, and there's a rope swing dangling from a nearby tree. No swimsuits, unless your character arrives in one, so hopefully they don't mind getting their clothing wet (or losing their clothes altogether!)

Beside the lake stands a small, narrow shack mostly tucked into the trees. Inside, characters will find rudimentary fishing supplies, as well as some life jackets and uninflated black inner tubes.

The cookout:

In a large clearing, someone has built a large campfire that never seems to be in danger of burning out. Nearby, there's a grill and a cooler filled with hot dogs and burger supplies, ready for the cooking, and another table has drinks (alcoholic and non), chips, and standard cookout fare. There's also a bowl of (grr) marshmallows, flanked by stacks of graham crackers and Hershey's bars, and two bowls of punch: one labeled YES and one labeled NO. The YES punch smells vaguely of vodka. If your character drinks the NO punch, IM me at quantifythis.

Behind the fire stands a wood and cork bulletin board.

The campgrounds:

At the other side of the clearing are a couple tents, as well as a few sparsely furnished cabins. One of these cabins is the Cabin of Magical Aging, which looks identical from outside, but characters under 18 are in for an unexpected surprise! Leaving this cabin will cause characters to revert to their original age.

The woods:

At the edge of the clearing is a bench supporting dozens of metal and glass lanterns, as well as a painted sign:

Step 1: Take lantern.
Step 2: Enter forest.
Step 3: ???
Step 4: PROFIT!

Scrawled below in different paint: Management assumes no responsibility.

As your character moves into the woods, dense foliage begins to block out the light. If they continue, they'll find small clearings filled with fireflies, and the sounds of crickets and frogs float through the trees. By most appearances, it's an ordinary forest, but once the light has mostly faded, your character senses that they've heard a few rumors about this place, though they can't remember where. (Forest is magical, for better or worse. Have fun with it!)

The first rule of the party: have fun. The second rule of the party: don't be lame. All characters are welcome. All powers/abilities are go, if the others you're threading with are okay with it. Characters arrive in whatever clothing you feel like giving them, though if they search, they'll be able to find some bland replacements in the cabins.
