It's become quickly apparent that come Sunday, I'm just in no mood to play baseball and I severely doubt much of the rest of Easy will be in a spot where they want to. Kara closed her notebook, feeling as drained and irritable as she always did from the task. John hadn't told her exactly how the process of writing out her sins was supposed to keep her from drinking, but Kara was beginning to suspect that exhaustion was the chief weapon against the urge.

She went to the door and pulled it swiftly open, curious as to who would be calling when she knew Sharon was at the Compound. "Buck. Hey."

I don't really smile so much as just nod in greeting to her, knowing I just need to get through this. "Kara," I say, not in the mood for titles or flirting or anything else. Just live, exist, that's all I want. "Just came by to uh, to tell you there's probably not going to be a game for the team. For our team, at least."

That almost makes me laugh and I just shake my head. This is the problem with building a team out of your platoon. Something shakes it all up, then you don't know how the cards'll land. "I'm not uh, planning on turning up. Knowing Joe, I doubt he will either."

I don't know if Doc is willing to go, but in general, I don't see us working as much of a team right now. "No one's hurt," I assure, even if I'm not looking at her and just to her side instead. "I just...I...don't think we're really ready to play right now."
