disclaimer: i do not own naruto.
It was four in the morning when someone’s phone beeped. And beeped. And beeped.
Naruto had never hated that Kim Possible ringtone as much as did then. Leaving his bedroom, he stomped to the living room where Sakura and her cursed phone were resting. That was it. To hell and friendship. She wasn’t allowed to sleep over at his and Sasuke’s apartment ever again. Ever!
He dropped a pillow on her and muttered, “Oi, Kim Possible, someone’s got a sitch. Pick up your effin’ phone.”
Sakura groaned as she slowly sat up and turned off my phone. “That was my alarm.”
“And yet you didn’t wake up,” Sasuke chided as he joined them in the living room.
"Ah, shaddup,” Sakura said before she dropped back onto the couch. She turned over and pulled the blanket she was borrowing over her head.
Sasuke sighed. “Sakura, you can’t go to sleep. You have four papers due this week and you’ve only done one.”
“…ugh. Fuck. You.”
Rolling his eyes, Sasuke turned on every single light in the room. He winced, but the other two were much more vocal about their aversion. Sakura whined into the couch cushion while Naruto groaned and ran back to his room to go back to bed. Sasuke sighed at how obvious it was Sakura wasn’t going to get up.
“Sakura.”
“Go awaaay.”
“Papers, Sakura,” he repeated. “And if you don’t wake up now and get a head start on them, five hours from now you’re going to have a panic attack and waste even more time. And then-”
“Okay!” Sakura yelled, sitting up. She threw a pillow at him but he easily dodged. “But I need coffee.”
“I figured,” Sasuke said. He tugged on her arm when he noticed she wasn’t going to leave the couch. “I put on the timer. It should be ready now.” Depositing her at the dining table where she had arranged her laptop and notes earlier, Sasuke went into the kitchen. When he came out with a mug of coffee for her, he saw her eyes wide and shoulders shaking.
Ah, hell.
“Calm down,” he immediately ordered. He knew the signs. It was November and November was typically the worst month for anyone at KU since everything was due then, and people like Naruto and Sakura had very bad time management skills. So when that week came around and Sakura worsened her coffee addiction and began forgetting to eat, Sasuke knew she was on her way to a freak out. Or something. “Calm down,” he repeated.
She nodded stiffly. “But! I have three left. One is due tomorrow! And then two the day after! I’m fucked! I’m so totally fucked-”
“You’re not fucked,” Sasuke said calmly. “You’re an idiot for not having started at least last week, but you’re not fucked.”
“But-”
“Now drink your coffee,” he continued, pushing the mug to her. She reluctantly took a sip of it, and when she put the drink back down she grinned at him. He rolled his eyes. “Yes, as much as I don’t approve of how much sugar you put in your coffee, I made it like that for you.”
Sakura smiled “You’re such a sweetheart!”
“Whatever.” Then he grabbed some work of his own and settled in across from her.
She looked surprised. “You’re not going back to sleep?”
Sasuke snorted. “Someone has to make sure you concentrate.” He glanced at the coffee mug and then met her tired eyes. “And make sure you don’t fall back asleep.”
“Will you edit my essay for me then?” she asked.
He rolled his eyes. “Of course. You’re so incoherent I’ll be surprised if what you write makes sense.”
Sakura didn’t pay attention to the insult. “Promise?”
Sasuke raised an eyebrow. “Why the hell would I promise?”
“Because last time you said you would edit for me you didn’t.”
“…I was studying for my midterms.”
Sakura nodded. “Yes, I know. Which is why now I’m making you promise.” When Sasuke showed no sign of promising, she sighed dramatically. “I just don’t want it to be like that time you ditched me at the library-”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“-‘cause you really let me down.” Peering at him from under her eyelashes, Sakura could see traces of guilt on his face. Score! For the heck of it, she continued: “But I guess if you’re too busy-”
“Okay,” he interrupted. “Stop. I said I’d do it. And besides… I made you coffee.”
“…this is true.”
