Beautiful descriptions, love the description of death in the opening para, especially the mention of negative space, and the woman not knowing why she was there until she did.

I like the comparison between a gamble and life, even if this one end in a rather grim fashion. While all life does end in death and the house always wins, negative space and cutting cards having no noticeable difference, I'd like to keep some hope.
I'd like to think Mr Black teaches her to have a little hope.
