Many things have happened since my last post. I apologize for not being around lately, but it's been hectic to say the least. So... it's all here in nice little categorized links. I look forward to catching up on everyone's lives!
So while I was in Vancouver, I ended up working in Vancouver Public Library's Children's department for two weeks. This was hella fun and seriously stressful, but all in all, I'm really glad I did it. After about a week, even though I was still learning, I felt like I was gaining a lot of competencies.
After I finished, Mom and Dad had driven up to Van. So on the very day after I was done, they were there! Instead of having to go down and get a taxi to pick up Jenna, we were all able to go and it was cheap and full of family and good times.
I can't even express how wonderful it was to see Jenna after so long. It felt like it had been forever and no time at all.
Most of our time was spent packing. But when we weren't doing that, we were:
- shopping for Christmas gifts
- meeting friends (we got to see Ye and Kelsey and Lisa L yay!)
- going up to the mountains!!!!
- watching the snow fall out my window at night with the streetlamps
So yeah. Goodbye Vancouver. :(
Then Mom and Jenna and I drove fast and furious out to Colorado, trying to beat a storm, while Dad flew back. We made it, but the weather on the way there was really cold (down to -19). We got back in two days-- which was great, especially since I had a cold.
In Colorado, more packing was done! And also the sorting of things. This was really kind of hard for me, because at one point, Dad had said, "You can only leave five boxes of things in this house when you move out" and I only had a tiny car with no roof rack or trailer in which to take back my things. Fortunately, with a few tears and angst and burning of papers, we managed to get a bunch of stuff in the car. Most of my books are still packed in boxes waiting to be shipped out to me.
Cool Colorado things:
- saw the Millers. Tyler's hair puts Richard Simmons to shame.
- met Jenna's aunt(s)
- stood outside and howled until the coyotes in the reservoir started howling, too.
- chatted with Nate. Unfortunately this was left until the last night I was there, so it wasn't nearly long enough.
- played LOTR Risk with the family and Jenna. Was totally awesome until Nate and Dad found the ring. :(
- saw my old house (again)
- Sweetie (Mom's bird) laid a couple of eggs
- drove around and saw Christmas lights on the Colorado state capitol building
- got sweet Christmas swag, including glow sticks from the Christmas Eve service. Have decided to have a glow party in the summer which includes catching fireflies.
We had my unbirthday on Dec. 26th, and then Jenna and I left the following morning to come to Virginia.
Jenna and I then drove out to Virginia together. We spent the day after we got back with her mom and sister (which was supremely awesome, as I love both of them). We watched The Fall together, which is a stunning movie that I recommend to everyone, and had gifts. This was Christmas #2.
Then we had CRISIS. There was a minor upset in the plans of our little core group of friends which was crisis-like and made Jenna mad and almost ruined our New Years. But it all got worked out so we're all good now. And New Years was fine. Shabbie and K and Jenna and I did dinner at Cosi (super yay) and then we went out to DC the next day (a slightly less enthusiastic yay). At some point during the day in DC we realized we probably should have stayed home in our pjs, watched movies, and ordered pizza or something in. Oh well. We saw a sushi shower curtain in one of the museum gift shops that Jenna and I are going to pick up tomorrow.
Anyway after that we had Christmas #3 with Jenna's dad and his girlfriend Yvonne. That was slightly more stressful, as I had been looking for a gift for them for weeks. It wasn't until that morning that I'd gone online and ordered a pair of hand painted mugs from Etsy. I hope they'll come soon...
Then it was my birthday! Jenna and I went to my grandparents' for lunch and hung out with them for a while (which is a lot cooler than it sounds), then we got hobbit feast food at the grocery store and had a little quiet birthday. :) It was very relaxing.
Shortly after this, Jenna got food poisoning from some bad scallops and was gross for the next two days. That was a little traumatic for both of us, I think. It didn't quite help that her aunt (who was very drunk) kept asking her if she was pregnant. That was amusing, though, and her aunt was really sweet despite the questions.
And that brings us up to now...
Today I went out and got some socks and jewelry and stuff. This includes my new Team Jacob button which I had to have, some eye-gouging orange nail polish of which Naruto would be proud, and a weird grey flower hairpin with feathers on it.
My allergies seem to be doing okay despite the cat in the house. I've been putting vinegar in her water and some around my nose and mouth, and that seems to kill a lot of the allergens. Sudafed I have in case of emergency.
One of the first things we started doing when we got back was watching Twin Peaks between being busy and ill and unpacking and Christmas shopping. So yesterday we finished the last episode and I have to admit, I'm still kind of weepy over it. It's not a good but sad weepy like I was for Carnivale, but rather a frustrated, angry, despairing weepy. Twin Peaks has one of the crappiest series endings ever. EVER. Still. That's what fanfic is for, eh? And yes, Jenna and I have started writing one. Also, I was surprised that she was all over Truman/Cooper before I even saw it. xD
Carnivale. Is as epic the third time through as it is the first time through. Someone finish this, please!
So Jenna and I have started writing a few fics together (along with the Twin Peaks one we have Baby Lanteans featuring Mini-John with a fake lisp and Due South: Clash of the Rays). But right now the one that we've finished outlining and are actually writing is affectionately termed "Vamplantis." It's also known as "Dr. Fallon, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Being a Wraith Vampire." And I can describe this in four words: John. Rodney. Vampires. lol.
We're going to start a website together at some point, so yay. I'll begin putting that together soon.
And this is, in brief, why I haven't been around for the past month or so. I will be around more and as I said, I look forward to reading about everyone's lives for the past 1/12 of a year! T_T
Oh! And also, this:
D. Fry, MLIS
Hell yeah.
