You know it's sad when...

I've been reading too much Hetalia. Seriously. I went to research Anne of Cleves (Jenna and I have been watching The Tudors), and I was trying to figure out exactly what "Germany" she came from. Anyway, in my research, I was reading something about Germany at the time, and the article I read mentioned the "Polish/Lithuanian Commonwealth" and I ( Read more... )

Nice writing there! The story sounds interesting.... is it posted somewhere?

Hetalia or whatever is popping up all over DA, but I've never heard of it here. I know it's being made into an anime, though. To be honest, I think it's an interesting idea, but the mangaka has some serious BALLS actually writing characters based on countries. That has to be one of the most offensive things I've ever heard of (and South Korea is reportedly POed)

Mmm... not yet. I'm still playing with format and characters. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have something solid. :) Thanks!

Oh god, seriously. It's super offensive. You have to be able to take a lot of weighty things very lightly to be able to like the series. Ha ha... yeah Korea sort of has a right to be pissed. All the other countries have some good qualities as well as bad, but Korea has very little redeeming value (though he's hysterical). *shrug* I think it's cute and ultimately works out pretty well, but that's just me.

I would pick up a copy, but I haven't even seen it for sale anywhere. I know they are doing an anime based on it, though, so I'll probably keep an eye out for it on youtube or something. Is it boy's love? It seemed like all the countries were represented by men (which, honestly, is kind of annoying because I think some countries would be best represented as women).

I think more than just having countries personified, the era is also what makes it offensive. Isn't this like era WWII or something?
