You know what's mildly amusing? The only real difference between France and Italy is 1/3 of their flag. France has blue, Italy has green. Therefore, by shouting out "FORZA AZZURRI", you are, in fact, openly declaring your traitorship! :p
I'm not sure what I want to happen in this game. I mean, if Italy wins convincingly, then it shows that we could have won convincingly too. But after the way Zidane's been playing, I'd like to see him go out with a spectacular win.... Personally, despite all the kerfuffle, I'd have liked Portugal to win, because I quite like Ricardo... I seem to have a thing for goalkeepers... Either way, it should be a good game. And I guess, seeing as I'm commenting in an Italian supporter's journal, I'll say "FORZA AZZURI" as well, to get out alive. Take it as you will:)
By "we" you mean the Socceroos, right? 'Coz I automatically read "we" in this context as "Italy"... but that's just me.
When I say "Forza Azzurri", I am, in fact, openly declaring my support for the Italian national soccer team. This is because the Italian national soccer team is officially called the Azzurri, which is Italian for "the Blues". I think the french team might also be called "the Blues", however their name is french. Consequently, when I say "Forza Azzurri", Italians will hear it as support for the Italian national soccer team, while the french will hear only gobbledigook. :P
I'd have liked Portugal to win because they're more interesting than the french. But whatever. We have Gattuso and Del Piero and Totti and Luca Toni and let us not forget the great Gianluigi Buffon... Yep, goalies are definitely thing-worthy!
Alas.... Yeah yeah, I know what Forza Azzurri means. It's just that France is also "Les Bleus", plus they have blue on their national flag. And so I was hoping it'd be taken as a... you know, a witticism... Oh well.... I guess I'm a bit off. Stupid pineapples.....
That's the one!! les bleus!! I knew it was something wussy-sounding!! :P And yeah, the irony of the flag-colours is not lost on me, although I swear, the next person who asks if I'm a france-supporter because of my blue Italia t-shirt is going to find themselves slapped upside the head... err, yes. Stupid pineapples.
Yeah. Go Zidane. Go off the pitch. Go out of the international soccer scene forever. But oh, you don't want to go honourably. Go out after headbutting an opponent off the ball. Go out on a red card. Go out in disgrace. Go, Zidane. Goodbye.
