LJ Idol Week 27: Sometimes Why

May 24, 2010 10:53

Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.
--Wm. Shakespeare, The Tempest

In my parents' backyard are many treasures. )

Love your opening quotation from Bill the Bard! :D

I think the boats make fantastically unusual tree planets - a nice talking point.

One of the other participants wrote about Ariel, and I had that bit of The Tempest in my head as I was writing this. I've linked that entry at the bottom of the post if you want to read it.

The boat thing really freaked me out at first, but now I'm hoping that they manage to survive. Nature will always find a way, eh?

Maybe this is the collector/hoarder in me, but I've always had a great fondness for those kinds of "junk".

Well done!

I think the trees growing out of the boats are simply beautiful. Another stage in the ever moving cycle of life.

They are really lovely in their own way. I'm curious to see how long they'll last.

That is so funny because you're right. At first, reading this, the trees being in the boat didn't even really register to me. But then you said the trees were in the boat and I was like, by golly, they ARE in the boat! Trees in a boat, and you are right. That is kind of neat and transformative, like the catfish dinner.

Yes! Catfish (much maligned bottom feeders) become something lovely and warming, especially when shared with friends. I'm curious to see how the trees develop as time goes on.

A tree growing out of a wooden boat is amazing and thought-provoking on so many levels!
