In between summer & fall, there is Paris

Back in May when raayat surprised me with a trip to Paris, he also mentioned that he wished we would go more often. How could I resist such a request?

I knew better than to even try during the height of summer, so I picked the first weekend in September thinking the weather would still be nice, but the city would hopefully be less crowded. Both proved to ( Read more... )

Capers come in a variety of sizes (and are traditional on carpaccio), so that's probably what they are. Although we're used to the small ones in the US, you can get them as big as marbles in Italy.

I wil have to check out the Musée des Plans-Reliefs next time I'm in Paris - sounds divine. The Pantheon was one of my main stops this last trip...also very empty when I was there. The great thing about Paris is that the main sights are packed to the gills while the lesser known places are empty. Part of that is because the main sights are so spectacular, but I also think it attracts a less well-informed breed of tourist than other cities (like London or New York), and because the locals don't go to these places at all. When you're in London, half the people in the museum are English - you rarely see the French at museums in Paris (the Pompidou Centre is the only exception I can think of to this).
