I feel, after viewing tonight's presidential debate, that I have to apologize for my last two posts. No longer can I joke about the current state of American politics: I fear for this country's future. Tonight's debate was a complete and utter fucking travesty. my patriotism will be to keep my civil liberties from being infringed upon as much as possible. as such, i'm voting democratic- if i voted libertarian, i'd run the risk that by the time a viable candidate was presented, there would no longer be civil liberties in the united states. i don't want that. and i don't want to work in the foreign service when the rest of the world hates us. hopefully by the time i graduate from college, the united states won't be the international asshole.

If Kerry gets his shit in gear in the next 20 days and seriously shows that he's dedicated to protecting American freedoms, I'll gladly vote for him. But he has waffled (no I'm not accusing him of flip-flopping, this is just my perception) far too much on this issue for me to seriously consider supporting him. It speaks volumes when he claims to stand behind groups like the ACLU and says he's dedicated to promoting our civil liberties and then states that he supports the Patriot Act. As I also mentioned, he CANNOT expect us to seriously believe that he supports the constitution when he very clearly also supports faith-based initiatives which have done nothing but erode civil liberties and American freedoms. If he expects us to support him, he's going to have to stop trying to play both sides of the fence, and if he does, he'll have my vote. Until then, I have to vote for Badnarik. The attitude of "my vote is just a throwaway vote, it won't make a difference" is the exact reason that third-party candidates have NO presence in US ( ... )
