To prevent you from getting entangled in a big bitch-fest from me, then I'll cut but please, for the love of God...
For years now I've been treated to a lot of movies made about games. But recently, something very terrifying has been happening. They've sucked, and I don't just mean sucked as in, "well that was okay but I'm not gonna see it again." I mean sucked as in "OH MY GOD, MY FUCKING EYES!!!1!"
It all is traced to one man, and one movie that he made. I'm sure we all remember the game Alone in the Dark? If not then find it and play it. It was a very good survival horror game set in the old days where you as a detective are trapped in a house that is haunted by spirits as you try to unravel the mystery before you. I wont go into detail anymore than I have to, however, it is a very good game.
Now we come to what one man did, to one game that made not just me angry, but many gamers around the globe. His name, was Uwe Boll. The movie, was Alone in the Dark. A sci-fi thriller with monsters, and a gun-toting detective. If it were a stand-alone action film, the movie would've been fine I'm sure. However, because it was to be based off "Alone in the Dark" then that's what I expected. Helpless individuals going up against things they can't protect themselves well from. You know...suspense. Not go around a corner, roar, die monster die.
Uwe Boll has slapped everyone in the face who's ever loved these games. It didn't stop with Alone in the Dark, and it wont stop with just that. He released BloodRayne last year, which got no real public attention. I wonder why... I went and saw this movie. By the end of the movie, I was in tears. It was terrible, it contridicted the game!
How often have you been sitting down playing a game saying wouldn't it be cool if they made a movie of this? What do most of you think? "Wouldn't it be cool if they made a movie of the same game I'm playing?" In other words, you keep the elements that make the game good. Environment, sound, maybe even some characters if you want.
This brings me to the upcoming release of Silent Hill. If you've ever been a fan of the series, please check it out. This is a director that knows what he's doing. The movie looks just like it's game counterpart, even feels like it from what I can tell. The intro is exactly like the intro of the first game where they are driving along in their car. It's wonderful to see something like that.
Next you come to a movie like BloodRayne, which could only be called that because of the fact the character in the movie was Rayne. It was bad, acting was terrible, the story was terrible, as a gamer, I wept. If they had made a prequal with exsisting elements of the game, I'd have not complained as much. But after I saw the movie, I was livid. I couldn't speak.
Uwe Boll isn't stopping there either. Recently he's been working on a Dungeon Siege movie which, from the trailers, looks like total and utter crap. Quite possibly, has nothing to do with the Dungeon Siege universe. If you don't care about Dungeon Siege, then don't worry. Far Cry, Hunter: The Reckoning, Postal and Fear Effect are looking like they'll be next for him to take ahold of and choke the life out of. I, personally, don't want to see these games given the same ruining touch. I don't want to see another game-to-movie script wind up in his hands. I don't want to see that.
Now comes to the point of this post. I don't have many people on my F-list, but please, take this issue to your friends. Give them my name, tell them what this is about. I'm sure you've got friends who are gamers, or just don't want to see another bad movie be released. Help me please, so we can stop before he gets a Legend of Zelda, or Metal Gear Solid, or even a Sonic the Hedgehog movie in his hands. I don't want to see anymore bad movie about games.
Only you can help me stop him. I can't do it alone, but I'm sure that together we can stop him before it becomes too late! Comment and leave your signature, if we start some type of petition we can probably do some good! It may even spread to other communities and we can get good movies about good games!
In other news, I hope this works. Because I wont faulter a single step in this cause.
