Character name: Uzumaki Naruto
Fandom: Naruto
Timeline: Five years before Naruto's main series takes place, when Iruka first became a teacher. Aka, during the flashback/history episodes #176-178 of Naruto Shippuden. Specifically, he is ported-in after being rescued from Takigakure kunoichi, and speaking to Iruka about what it means to be a Hero in the end of 178.
The 'Five years' has been judged by the fact that episodes 176-178 overlap with several flashbacks from Naruto. Particularity with how old both Sasuke and Naruto appear when they have a meaningful moment, catching each other's gaze as Naruto walks by and Sasuke is on a bridge. It is clarified that Naruto had heard earlier that day the that the Uchiha clan had been recently killed. As the Massacre occurs 5 years before the series start, it can be assumed that it is around that time. What causes confusion is that in Naruto they both appear to be around 6-7 years old, but in the Shippuden flashback, they appear around 10. This is likely an animation error, which an attempt to fix can be seen by 178 with Naruto's larger, more innocent eyes.
Age: For simplicity sake, he is 7 going on 8.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Chakra, Minimal Ninja Training
How would they use their abilities?: Pranks, shenanigans, and missions.
Appearance:
Naruto is small for his age, both in height and build. This is due in part both to his high metabolism and a diet made of mainly ramen, bread, butter and milk. His bright blond hair and blue eyes helps him to stand out along with his wardrobe of orange and loud personality. Often times he will be wearing a jumpsuit that is substantially too large for him, other times a short sleeved jacket that is only one size too big, and on occasion he will have only his shorts and T-shirt, both of which surprisingly fit.
And then on a rare occasion he'll dress up like a 'Fox Demon' to scare his classmates in a graveyard. Pics cuz it really happened. :P
Background/Personality:
Naruto hails from a world that for all intents and purposes could pass for miss-match of our own Japans feudal era, if not for some major technological advancements tossed in. The continent is broken up into various countries which the residents refer to as 'Lands', and monarchies and military powers are in place. Almost all countries have a daimyō [feudel lord] of some sort, and many in turn have their power balanced by the military might of their ninja village and Kage [Village Shadow] (or a similar equivalent in the case of the Land of Iron's Samurai) and vice versa. For the past few centuries, a country was only as strong as the power of their ninja-villlage, or the ninja that they hired from neighboring villages. Today much is still the same, with only the recent and rare introduction of firearms playing a new role. This is a world of daily assassinations and political crimes, of pay offs and information and often enough stealth hidden battles waged in the dark of night or in the open of day.
This is a land of Shinobi.
Konohagakure [The Village of the Leaf] resides in the Land of Fire, one of the four major powers ruling the land. It is in Konoha that Naruto has been born and raised, and in him has been sealed the strongest of the Tailed Demons of their world; the Kyuubi no Kitsune.
On the day of his birth, the Kyuubi attacked Konoha. In order to stop the beast from destroying the village, the Fourth Hokage Namikaze Minato gave his life to seal it away into Naruto. Later the obvious is revealed in that the fourth was Naruto's father, and that the speculation of the Kyuubi being 'forced' to attack was confirmed, as Uchiha Madara was the one who staged a plot to free the Kyuubi from Naruto's mother, Uzumaki Kushina, and controlled it to attack Konoha. Madara chose to strike on the day of Naruto's birth due to Kushina's seal being its weakest during childbirth, and this would making freeing Kyuubi all the more possible. Her labor was unknown of to Konoha, as the Fourth and her knew of the dangers of the seal weakening at that time, and so silently they traveled with a party of Anbu and trusted companions outside the village when the day came. Before leaving to try and save Kushina and stop the Kyuubi, Minato shared with the former Hokage his last wish; for Naruto to be seen as a Hero.
After the devastation the Kyuubi brought onto the village and the death of the fourth Hokage, the former Hokage Sarutobi came out of retirement. With the Fourth's last wish and the true events of the night weighing heavily on his mind, the Third decided not to reveal Naruto's parentage to the public, knowing that it would bring more danger upon him than anything else. After sharing a safer version of what occurred to the village, along with the Fourth's last wishes, Sarutobi was forced to declare Naruto's status as the Kyuubi's host an S-Class secret after the vicious and negative response to his continued life. He did so in hopes that at the very least, the following generations would not be exposed to any prejudice and hate towards Naruto.
By around age 6 Naruto was living on his own and attending the Ninja Academy. The specific details of his care and education up till this point are vague or nonexistant, and in most cases has been left up to personal Head Canon to fill in the blanks.
In this one, for the first 3-4 years of his life he was raised in an orphanage. Though technically abused, his physical abuse was not much more than any other orphan, which wasn't much beyond a smack or hit here or there (which, judging by the frequency of casual violence among the Ninja and civilians of the village, this was considered only disciplinary). Despite being cared for and taught some very basic education, the other orphans quickly picked up on their caretakers disdain and avoidance, and did their best to take part in childish mockery and exclusion of the Kyuubi's Host. Living here placed the roots for Naruto's loud, destructive behavior, as he quickly learned that the only way to gain any type of acknowledgment or attention was through these means. Even though it got him punished and he was forced to clean up afterwords, it was better than being ignored.
Eventually, after running away from the orphanage numerous times, the Third Hokage arranged for Naruto to live on his own and gave him an apartment, setting him up with a monthly welfare-like support fund, something the village provided all their orphans should they need assistance upon leaving the orphanage. He received no less than any others, but no more than what was deemed needed for a month of living. Of course, this did not stop Sarutobi from treating Naruto once in a while. Still, with the prejudice of the village against him and the occasionally raised price of items, he discovered the joys of instant ramen and spent most of his funds between that and other necessities.
Along with living on his own, not long later the Third enrolled him into the Ninja Academy after speaking with and encouraging Naruto in that direction. It was his hope that the early enrollment would help to keep him occupied and provide and outlet for his difficult and lonely life, as the time Naruto spent living alone had caused him to turn his pranks and behavior towards the village. With the Third being the first person to really show kindness and concern for him, Naruto views him as both a rolemodel and a Grandfather, and so having the chance to become a Ninja (and be strong and gain respect like Sarutobi) was instantly and eagerly accepted.
[From here on is full Canon]
During his third year of Academy, Naruto was on a new (and should the instructor refuse to teach him) last instructor; this instructor was a young Chuunin named Umino Iruka. Iruka was reluctant to take Naruto on as a student, knowing of his reputation as both a delinquent and the Host to the demon that killed his parents, however the Third was able to convince him to at the very least try. Conflicted and unsure of how to handle Naruto in his first year of teaching, the Chuunin asked his fellow instructors for advice, and was told 'Just do what works'. With these words, Iruka went to his new class and was greeted with one of Naruto's pranks. Following his co-workers advice and acting on the resentment he holds towards Naruto, he ignores the prank and calmly tells him to return to his seat. For the rest of the day and day after, Naruto continued to try and provoke a reaction and attention, only to receive the thing he hated most instead.
Iruka's dilemma with Naruto continues when one night he passes several of his students fleeing in fear, yelling about a 'Fox Demon'. Instantly on guard and fearful, he rushes to the graveyard they had run from, and there he encounters Naruto- wearing a fox mask and cape, perched on a memorial in a prank. After being rejected and mocked by the peers for wanting to join their 'Test of Courage' earlier that day, Naruto had come across the mask in the village. The seller reacted violently to his presence, pushing him to the ground and throwing the mask at him, yelling at him to leave. To add to the incident, shoppers stared at him with scorn the entire time, causing the boy to yell at them and retreat, hiding how much their actions hurt him.
Iruka knew none of this, and only saw the Demon Host disgracing the ones who its demon killed, his parents included. The fact that Naruto doesn't seem to know what he was doing made the situation even more difficult, and within moments Naruto encounters the same scornful expression he has faced many times before, this time from his newest teacher's face- someone who should be looking out for him. Hurt deeply, the blond yells at Iruka his distress, claiming he will never return to the Academy again before running off. Still stunned and conflicted, Iruka can do nothing but let him, reflecting on Naruto and his own childhood.
Naruto makes good on him claim, as the next day he does not show up for class. Later that day Naruto would meet up with Chouji and Shikamaru at one of Konoha's parks. There he fooled around to impress them and others, and was able to get several other children to play. By evening however, his joy is cut off as their parents arrive to pick them up. Both reminded of his longing for a family and acceptance, when he comes across Sasuke during his walk home, he cannot help but have a moment of comradeship and understanding with the last Uchiha. Though he wouldn't admit it then, Naruto can't help but smile afterwords, his glum mood lightening.
That night though, kept awake by thoughts of rejection and Iruka's dismissal of him, the young boy is reminded again of just how alone he really is.
The next morning Naruto receives a pleasant surprise as he is awoken early in the morning to find Iruka at his door. In his heart, he knows that the fact that he bothered at all to check up on him meant something, meant that his teacher did somehow care. But that didn't change the fact that it took a full day for him to do something about it (to come groveling at his feet in apology, maybe?). Deciding to both punish Iruka for being a jerk and prank him, Naruto quickly slips out of his apartment. Not long later he encounters the classmates he frightened in the graveyard, and is told he will be allowed to become a part of their group- on the condition he goes to Konoha's back hills and retrieves a belonging of one of the enemy ninja killed there the day before. Eager and overjoyed, Naruto accepts and quickly heads out to complete the task. Unknown to him, Hibachi, the leader of the group and creator of the condition, had been told the enemy ninja were likely still there and that the hills had been restricted for that reason.
On his way to the battleground, he is stopped when Iruka catches up with him. After being told to return to the Academy and class, Naruto refuses mulitiple times, intent on for filling his task and gaining some friends. Iruka remains firm, for the first time ever acting as a teacher should towards the Kyuubi's Host, but Naruto can't bear to lose this opportunity and uses his prank technique, the 'Sexy Jutsu' which turns himself into a well endowed naked girl. Taken by surprise, Iruka is stunned long enough for Naruto to make his escape.
Whether it is by good or bad luck, Naruto makes it to the battleground without issue after that, and after searching the entire morning for a suitable item to bring back, takes a break for some lunch. Finding a bird's nest, who's eggs are on the menu, the blond is surprised and delighted to find a pristine and unique kunai hidden there. Instantly forgetting his meal, he rejoices his find and rushes back towards the village to find Hibachi and the others. Within moments though he is stopped by three Kunoichi from Waterfall, who are after a message attached to the kunai he found. Unwilling to part with his find, he runs, leading the three on a chase through hunting traps and avoiding them and their attacks extremely well for his age and inexperience. If there was one thing he was good at, it was getting away from someone. Just as he seems about to be in the clear, he takes a wrong step and tumbles down a large and steep cliff, knocking himself out during his decent.
To Naruto's fortune, Iruka, hearing the disturbance, quickly finds him and pulls him to his feet, managing to rouse him into consciousness briefly. When the Kunoichi confront Iruka however, it isnt long before Naruto passes out again, and Iruka throws a smoke bomb to help cover their escape.
Carrying the young blond, Iruka meets up with Kakashi when the Copy-ninja disrupts one of the Waterfal-nins' attacks. Leaving it to the Jounin to handle the foreign ninja, Iruka takes Naruto to safety. As Naruto rested the Chuunin reported the events and incident to the Third, turning over both Naruto's kunai and the message attached. When Naruto speaks with him later at the academy, hoping the teacher will know where his item went, he is distressed to find that Iruka 'lost' it and yells at him, as he is prone to doing. When Iruka yells back though, the blond braces himself, pausing and quieting down as his teacher speaks, telling him of how unimportant the item was in comparison to Naruto's life. Chastised but confused of what to make of the change of behavior towards him, Naruto listens as Iruka declares he will be more strict and up front from now on.
And then, Iruka teaches him about the Will of Fire; the strong will and desire to protect their village, Konohagakure. With it, he tells him, he can become as strong as the Lord Hokage. It was the Hokage, after all, who was strong enough to protect the entire village. Up until this point, Naruto had known that Hokage was strong, but not that much stronger than other ninja. Not only that, but everyone in the village respects him, listens to him, because he is their leader, and he can protect them. That was why the Fourth Hokage was revered as a Hero; he was strong enough to save the village from the Kyuubi, had given his life in order to do so.
While admittingly some of this went over his head, hearing all this and actually listening, Naruto decides then and there that he will become a Hokage that is Stronger than the Fourth- he would make everyone acknowledge his strength!
So now, Naruto has a Dream. Now he has a Goal. And now he has a Sensei to help him reach for it.
Too bad next morning he'll find out that first he'll need to buy his planet back before he can go about working towards his new dream. Oh well, that's the least of his worries when there are aliens wanting him to fill out paperwork. He's not Hokage YET!
Personality:
Loud and proud, Naruto has often been described by his prank victims as 'annoying', 'disruptive' and a 'menace'. The parents of his peers are divided between this description and 'A harmless, if loud delinquent'. To be truthful, this does a good job of labeling the small blond, or at least the attention seeking behavior that makes up most of his life. He is loud so he cannot be ignored, so that he can be sure people will hear and have to acknowlege him. When someone says something he doesn't agree with, by god they are going to hear about it! If his words don't work, then he will either turn to pranks/vandalism or throw himself into a fight.
Naruto hates feeling down, feeling alone or sad or rejected; if he can help it, he'll try to laugh it off or put up a strong front, even though he is only seven years old. As long as they see him smile, it will turn out okay, right? For little things it sometimes works, such as not being able to join his class mates on a 'test of courage', but with other, stronger and pressing experiences he wont be able to, or want to hold back his emotion. So yes, he has his blue moments, but he has never and will never let them keep him down. He bounces right back from just about everything it seems, and somehow, he has the ability to inspire and connect with others on a whole other level. So far it has only been the Third, Iruka and Mr. Ichiraku and his daughter Ayame, but there are even others that have been touched but haven't realized it. Sasuke, Hinata, Shikamaru- and countless other people who have spoken with or encountered the blond have left with something a bit more than then had before.
Naruto is a memorable child, who's spirit and determination goes beyond rational means. He's young and has a lot of maturing to do, but hey, he's a kid, he's entitled to a little mischief.

Have you read up on how the game works?: Well uh- The plug-thingy for the Guide is the Flaming Ferret (what kind of name is that? Should'a gone with something like Gama-app!). And uh, we can make money by doing missions (just like being a ninja!), and we also get some money when we first get here.... I guess there are normal(freelance) jobs we can do to... or I can just mooch off of someone for an allowance or something.
So, did I get it right?
1st person sample:
01 - First Prank
[Bright red paint decorates the ever-so crammed hall and doors of the Stowaways. No, it is not a new color scheme, but vulgar words and crude childish drawings created with spray paint. Among the drawings are sketchy stickfigures to cups of ramen noodles. For the most part though, the masterpiece is loud and large and covers even the pristine floor in some places.
The artist, judging from the red smudges on his grinning face, is the young blond now laughing into the Guide.]
Bwahaha! You all see that? I bet you're all jealous- no I know you are! Who else here would try something like this? Thats right! No one but Uzumaki Naruto!
You'd all better remember that name you damn test-loving aliens! 'Cuz I'm the one that's gonna be Hokage-dattebayo!
3rd person sample:
Naruto stared at the man, and the man stared blankly back.
Which, really, wasn't all that surprising as the 'man' in question had 48 eyes.
48 eyes, and Naruto was sure 46 were fake. The question however, was which ones? Normally the blond would solve this simply by dousing the man in water or flour, or some other 'cause your eyes to itch' substance- but as the guy could supposedly see him from whatever direction he approached from (why yes, he did indeed have eyes on the back of his head, thank you), this clearly called for a direct approach.
Squaring his shoulders and stuffing his hands in his pockets, the short blond walks down the hall towards the man, eyes glancing away and lips perked in a whistle. As he approaches the optical man, the tune he blows loses any sensible melody and he draws the attention and pained looks of several others walking the hall, as if his bright orange jacket wasn't enough to turn heads. His target appears unaffected though, and as he nears a yard from him Naruto slows, glance up at the odd sight.
....
All 48 eyes (that he could see) were focused on and staring straight at him.
Crying out in alarm, Naruto flails his arms a moment before turning tail and running, dashing down the hall and almost bumping into several innocent and oblivious pedestrians. As he ducks behind the corner he had been watching the Quadocto-Optic man, all bright red eyes follow him, blinking and watching as a tuft of blond peeks out to peer at him once again.
With one more startled yelp, Naruto flees for good.
Questions?: Does the eight-armed ramen chef make eight times the ramen eight times as fast?
