Oh golly no, don't burn them! Yikes! D: You hang them inside your house as a permanent thing, you can donate them to a local hospital for them to hang in the children's cancer ward, or you can even send them to the Hiroshima Children's Peace Monument: http://www.city.hiroshima.lg.jp/www/contents/1465865303781/index.html
If you do the hang outside until they get tattered thing, I would gently recycle them, but don't burn them.

I would shy away from sending them to a hospital or monument unless they'd been made with that intention.
