LJ just isn't what it used to be; I added you on tumblr, I find myself spending much of my online presence there (ateliertovar.tumblr.com)

I miss livejournal quite a bit, and I think it's actually superior to many things out there these days ..... but what does that matter if everybody has jumped ship?

I took a long break from any sort of "internet publishing" simply because I didn't know where to go next. I do like wordpress, I think, and that's what I am using for my weblog. I think tumblr is great for spontaneous posting, and I like that it's not as INSANE as twitter. (a few twitter accounts out there are worthwhile, but mostly it's just like an endless string of facebook status updates, which is basically my worst nightmare)

Having said that .... I am still in the process of actually understanding tumblr & what I personally want to use it for, really. The strange thing is that I signed up so that I could make nonsense posts and not worry about any sort of self-editing/self-criticism, and YET I still find myself doing it (self-editing) all the time, all the time.

(I apologize in advance for the slew of Kdrama posts that will inevitably flood my tumblr.)

I'm still debating if I should put my all into a fashion/personal blog, which I have failed at in the past; I've never been a good paper journal keeper, even, though I wish I was. Tumblr is easy for me due to its mostly visual nature, so it tends to become a catchall image dump for me, though I try to post film stuff every few days or so.

LJ is slowly (well, not so slowly) disintegrating. There's still so much that I like about it (particularly being able to friends-lock posts, being able to have different levels of security for entries, etc.), but hardly anyone on my friends list posts anymore. I'm on tumblr, too (lookuplookup, mostly music & music-related cultural criticism, plus pictures that I just plain like -- not nearly as personal as LJ.) I miss the closeness of LJ, having a community of friends actively blogging/commenting/etc. I guess that's how these things go, though...

I agree with your points regarding livejournal's assets -- I was saying yesterday that I actually find it to be superior in several ways. It's interesting how the fairly complex setup of livejournal (a profile, a very customizable friends' list, possibly secured entries, etc) has now been boiled down to ... the very last shred, which I suppose is twitter (myspace was sort of like a stand-alone lj profile page). It makes sense, though -- these new social networking platforms are so straight-forward and basic that literally everybody can relate to them. (And without the slight 'social stigma' that came along with keeping a livejournal)

Having said that: My move over to a more public weblog/tumblr was an easy one, since I haven't used livejournal for particularly personal content in years & years anyway! I recall writing proper 'journal entries' only at the very start of my time here .... everything thereafter was 'personal' only in the sense that it was about, well, me, but I was hardly intimate.

I like your tumblr!

I'm feeling the same way with LJ. Can't be bothered much to use it anymore. I visit it once every week or two. The frenzied, intertwined community died years ago. They days where you made random new friends on it by the week are long gone. It was nice, but it's no more. Now we're stuck in the social networks where you go by real names and mostly add real-life friends and family... (It's difficult using Facebook. Half the people on my friend list are people I don't want reading what I think.)
