Okay, so. With all the excitement that's been building over the last week or so, there seems to be an unreasonable amount of negativity coming along with it. And that just won't do! So here's what I propose:

Clint/Steve, past Clint/Coulson, post-movie - G

Really, they're nothing alike. Clint knows this.

Steve's the handsome blonde haired, blue eyed man mountain with the heart of gold. Coulson was the small, unassuming g-man with the sharp tongue. To the civilian eye, they're chalk and cheese.

To Clint's eyes though, they could almost be the same man. The physical differences are vast, but it's the little things. The way Steve holds himself, arms across his chest when he's listening intently or delivering something that fills him with pride. The way Steve never wastes words, speaks when he needs to but is happy with quietly idling by. The old fashioned charm he has about him. He and Coulson are more similar than Clint thinks either of them ever knew.

It's also entirely possible that Clint is going completely insane with grief and is just projecting his feelings for his late handler onto said handler's childhood hero. (Coulson had denied ever having a crush on Cap, had withheld sex from Clint for a whole 24 hours when he'd dressed up in

I only started thinking about it recently. It's something about the "Captain, it would be my genuine pleasure" line. He doesn't really know Cap from Adam, not really, but he knows that he was important to Coulson so he's automatically got Clint's respect.

Actually just as I finished I was thinking "Did I accidentally Steve/Bucky here too?", I didn't list it as a pairing because I thought I might have been a little half-asleep and deluded, heh. But if someone else sees it, yes, he probably would remind Steve of Bucky. I might have to play with that more at some point!
