OH MY GOD. If there is absolutely anything you need help with New Zealand-wise, hit me up! New Zealand is awesome yo. Plus, I live (born and breed) in Wellington which is useful cause its in the middle of the country (in a good way, not a middle of no where way). Plus I know where PJ lives and therefore where a lot of the casts stayed :)

Ohhhh, good to know! I've been pricing hotel packages so far just out of Auckland, but maybe Wellington is a better way to go?

Well, Auckland is the bigger city, but if your coming with a mind for LOTR stuff, it's all Wellington. That's where Peter Jackson lives, Wetaworkshop is, Embassy Theater, the Weta Cave museum etc etc. Plus, middle of the country (bottom of the North Island), and some of the spectacular landscape etc is in the South Island (which is just spectacular anyway). Besides, Wellington is a cheaper city, just because it's very compact, so transport's not going to cost as much (you can walk the entire center city

if you want to be near hobbit stuff, you want to be in wellington. but more tours leave out of auckland, and more (and cheaper) flights go into aukland. i'd suggest starting in auckland and driving down the desert road past mt doom and stopping in hobbiton and rotorua on the way. it'll take a few days. know that if you want to drive 1) they drive on the opposite side of the road and when you first do it it's just as weird and hard for all the expected reasons (and a few unexpected ones) that you might think, and 2) these are absolutely not american roads and it will take longer to navigate than if you were planning a driving trip in the usa. especially the south island.

also, a kiwi will expect that your holiday will be at least 1 - 2 months long. if you're planning a week or two they will look at you like you're mad.
