I've never seen the movie, but the book is awsome. I didn't know the Metallica song was about the book until a couple days ago!

What is it about??

It's about a soilder who is drafted to fight in WWI and he is injured in battle. He wakes up a quadrapelegic who is deaf, mute, and blind but his mind is functioning normally. It's really sad, but it's really good- definitely makes you think about the war in Iraq and whether or not it is worth it.
