Prospective Transfer Student!

Hello everyone!
How are you? I'm doing OK. Anyway, my name is Heather and I am thinking about attending Franklin Pierce in the fall of 2006 to continue my education in pursuit of a Bachelor's degree. I received an Associate of Arts degree from Dean College in May 2005 where I majored in Musical Theatre. At Franklin Pierce I hope to continue in ( Read more... )

Hello,

I was actually a theater major at FPC and I transferred out this semester. To be honest, the theater department isn't good at all. I mean the teachers...dependsing which ones, are great. But the theater itself sucks. You would be better off at a school with a real theater and better equipment. The theater department gets the shaft when it comes to like everything.

But if you do decide you want to go there Nancy Stone or Bob Lawson would be the teachers to talk to. They are wicked good. And I believe juniors live in the towers. I am not sure if that goes for transferrs as well, but if you do not live there, I surgest Cheshire. It is the newest dorms and very nice.

I hope this helped a bit. Sorry if you were really looking forward to it, but that school to be honest sucked.

If you want to ask me any questions, feel free to im me at FindinMySheep
Good luck.

I myself graduated from FPC in December, though my major was Computer Science (With a minor in Music). My roommate for my last semester was a theater major, though, and from my time talking with him, he'd probably agree with most of what the first person said.

In any event, if you do end up as a Junior, you'll probably wind up in "the towers", which are called Mountainview and Northwoods. They're actually apartments, which are pretty nice all told. Full kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms. It's possible that you may not get a choice at all and they'll just stick you in one of the dorms with someone, which is rather "eh".

I transferred out of FPC my jr. year (I left to study music business, because I was less-than-thrilled with the Arts Management curriculum.) Bob Lawson of FPC Theater Department fame was one of the things I absolutely missed the most. I still do.

Though the theater itself isn't the best, you can learn an awful lot. People on the staff are very knowledgeable. Peggy (who teaches Voice and Diction- a requirement for theater majors) gave some invaluable advice to us- even those of us who weren't theater majors but would still benefit from good diction. (Really, everyone could use it.) And Lee Dunholter has a lot of practical knowledge when it comes to the techie side of theater.

But seriously- Bob Lawson. WOAH! He became my biggest muse ever! He's the epitome of brilliance.

Hey! I remember making an entry in here when I was deciding whether or not to come here.
Good luck to you. Have you visited the campus yet? If you have you've probably noticted a. it's a beautiful campus and b. we have something that I believe is a black box theater. It's a really small makeshift theater. BUT, directing is rather strong here. There's always multiple productions going on, and many of them are student produced/directed. I'm a mass comm major, so I'm not the best person to ask as far as that goes.
As far as dorms go: just as long as it's not a freshman dorm. The Towers are nice, because you only have a few other room mates, your own living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Lakeview housing is amazing, but that's for seniors.
Uhm...that's basically all I can offer.

I thought the freshman dorms were great. They are so much better than some of the sophomore housing except Cheshire. I transferred out midway through my soph. year and I had to move back into freshman housing as a soph. due to a roommate conflict. Towers are nice. Lakeview is nice but has such a bad rep for all the drinking.

From my experience in working with Res. Life, they usually put transfers in with the freshmen, unless you already know someone going here who pulls you into their house.
