early FPS

What was the first FPS topic you remember doing? Mine would have been in the 96-97 school year (3rd grade), and it was about Extraterrestrial Life - Space Station Armstrong, if anyone else goes that far back. It's funny to look at our work from that first packet, because you can see our current personalities still reflected in the challenges we ( Read more... )

one of the first I ever did was about clothes that changed color depending on your mood.. i think.

I'm not quite sure what THE first was, I know we did a lot of practice with topics not from FPS to learn the steps.

Very first? Alternative Energy, 2001-02. And it was TERRIBLE.

First one with this team (which I've been with for about three years) was Nanotechnology.

Was the Alternative Engery the one about Brownfields? ...no, now that I think about it, I know it wasn't, but Brownfields would have been the state fuzzy in 01-02 - and it was TERRIBLE too. We still remember that one & shudder.

AHH Good old Artificial Intelligence. I didn't know what to do and my teammates told me word for word what to write down. Sometimes, I wish it would still work like that. Sigh.

We used to spend up more time making up clever names for companies that would do things in our solutions than we did actually coming up with clever solutions - things like "Ima Cy Cologist will..." and "Plinko Sinko Plumbing Co. will..." It was the most blatant solution-patterning ever! Ah, the good old days. ;)

I don't remember the first real packet I did (I started in sixth grade, so whatever the first practice in 1999 was, probably, but we didn't always do the official practice problems, so who knows? I remember the state bowl packet had something to do with PAL. AI, maybe? And the qualifier was something about sports medicine, maybe? I don't know.) but I remember vividly a packet my coach made up for what was probably genetic engineering. It was about engineering chicken-pig blends called Chickypigs. Ohhh the scars.

Well sports med was PP1 3 years ago... and PAL wasn't the AI fuzzy because I did that one while PAL was before my time...

Oh PAL!! That was State in our 6th grade year, which was our first trip. I think the topic was AI, but I might be wrong about that. That packet is especially memorable for me, because we solved in a tiny kiddie classroom in Solon where the chairs were about eight inches off the floor, and Keith broke a dollhouse that was in the room and we NEVER TOLD. ;) I remember distinctly our PAL skit.

I'm remembering vaguely something about water resources/water skiing/sports meds or something like that that might have been from that year, but I dunno.

Chickypigs? ...EW!

It was in fourth grade, I didn't do it competitively but the advanced reading group did a little thingy. It was fads, I remember that. And then in sixth grade, the first competitive topic I did was Alternative Energy.
