*look who isn't getting homework done* Anyway, I was just wondering how all of you coming to IC this year or that have gone in the past pay for it. You see, previously, our district and a fund for national/international competition and we only had to contribute $200 each. But this year, the fund got axed thanks to budget cuts, so we've been ( Read more... )

Do they cover state exenses too, or just IC?

We went through (generous) donations by local organizations - the Optimist Club, the Lioness Club, and a youth sports booster org (maybe someone else I'm forgetting, too) - and from our school board. We got them mostly through personal request letters that we sent to the orgs, but it also helped that our coach had a student whose father was pres. of the youth boosters, so he had heard of FPS and was all over a check, even though it's not at all related to the Pee Wee Football they usually run! We didn't have time beforehand, but after IC, we did some presentations at meetings about FPS, wrote thank yous, and volunteered for some of their org. stuff. You say school board is out for you, but that was our best donation. We did an almost 20-minute presentation that went really well, they loved us, and thankfully, they had the funds ( ... )

We had to get there from Australia. That sucked :p
We got our school to let us fundraise with raffels and chocolates, and Macquarie Bank (who are the main FPS sponsor over here) donated about $500-600 AUS
Other than that, we did a lot of begging on the steps of businesses, trying to get them to sponsor us, and then our parents had to pay whatever else was needed.
Mostly donations came from Solicitors and large busnesses- i think Optus may have put in for it.
*shrugs*
We paid for a lot of it oursleves/ parents.
When you say district, do you mean FPS office, or.... something else?
*confused*

In the U.S., the school system is divided into "districts." Basically, one district will have a number of schools, although size varies quite a bit with one central administration and school board that makes policy for all of the schools in the district. They control a lot of the funds that are not school-specific.

Ahhh... we had to pay for it. It's extremely expensive: 17 people on my CMPS team, coach, misc. parents. My dad and I drove... but yeah, it was pretty expensive.

For CmPS, though, we sold lots and lots of coffee, tea, and random baked goods during conference time. We also had a "Celebrity Trash Auction", where we wrote to many celebrities, asking for something... like Big Bird's feather, and having him sign it. We earned $12,500 during the Celebrity Trash Auction.

That and selling DQ blizzards during lunch (until the PTO kicked us out because we were cutting into their funds) helped us.

We were doing so well that the Student Council accused us of stealing their money! Haha..
