A few random Kentucky questions. UK confused me.

There were a few things about the situation in Kentucky that I never figured out. Mainly, were there any other dorms occupied for actual housing other than the two towers and surrounding buildings by the bus drop-off and loading point? (And the lovely, chalk-decorated flowerpot and surrounding sidewalks, thank you very much.) I know each tower had ( Read more... )

FPSers were all in the Kirwin/Blanding complex. And just the one cafeteria :(
As for academic buildings, we had skits in the Physics/Math building, and I saw business school.

Did you have to hike a million miles to get to the building and/or business school?

a ways to the business school - it was by the student center (i think that's what it was).
the physics place was just across from the library.

We were in and out of the student center quite a bit; I walked my friend to on-site scenario and the silly Saturday Morning CPS thing was there. I didn't notice anything. And across from the library? Really? Wow... so perhaps we were just totally out of it, then.

My guess is academic buildings are in another part of campus. We counted 16 rooms (32 people) a floor in the Kirwin tower. That's 704 people. Considering there were supposedly about 2000 people, there would have been a lot in the rest of the complexes. I'm not sure how big they were. I'm thinking academic buildings are perhaps somewhere else on campus. Check the map in the program or look at their website. And there are probably more cafeterias, but we didn't get to use them. Connecticut had more, smaller dining halls.

They're definitely across campus, which seemed strange. I would have guessed the academics would have been closer to the dorms than the sports, but apparently not. That was not a good campus for walking around. The thing that bothered me most was the apparent distance between classes and dorms and the DON'T BIKE ANYWHERE EVER things painted all over. How are students supposed to get around on time? Nothing seemed to be really thought out. Then again, I didn't look at a map to get as familiar with the campus as I had in the other two places, so that may have been part of it ( ... )

I think part of the reason Connecticut was so bad was that we had been totally spoiled in Georgia for two years. I was only at UConn for the first year it was held there, but half the campus was under construction, the food was terrible, and it was impossible to find a bus. To get to the CPS fair set-up my team and I had to hike across campus in the pouring rain, with all of our stuff, simply because we couldn't find a bus. They weren't running buses. The worst was that it was unorganized, when it came down to it.

I know that some people stayed off campus in hotels, including a team from Mississippi that said their dorm rooms were unsat. So there were a lot of people at the events weren't necessarily staying on campus. Mostly parents and siblings I think.

The alternates and individuals competed in Whitehall which is an academic building. Last year scenario was there. I saw mostly dorms and frats until you got over by the library.

It's so strange that all the academics were over by the library; we walked past there quite a few times on trips to and from the student center and to fetch ice cream and dinner Saturday, as well as a million other things. I suppose we just weren't paying any attention. It's good to know they were by the library, though, because I was under the impression that they weren't. And that was stupid.
