I'm in the senior division--Lakeland is Amazing The State Bowl was sooo much fun, but I really don't remember your school Congrats on 3rd place, and I love your icon!
State bowl was amazing...and you probably don't remember it because last year I was at Norup (middle school) and Berkley only had two teams go and neither of them were at the awards ceremony.
Wow! Sounds like you have a totally awsome program. You got a big trophy??? In Wisconsin, which is not the world's smallest program the 1st through fourth place teams get a plaque and each member gets a ribbon. It seems like other states give out more. Whatever.
Since we don't really have a program anymore (just a team), we don't have official traditions, but we totally have team membories and experiences and inside jokes. We have our own motto, "We are turtle, watch us kill!" (long story) and last year we got these awsome turtle shirts.
12 teams?! That's a lot. Do you all meet at the same time? Do you have the same team all year? And if multiple teams meet together, do you all have one big discussion, or do you work in teams? 50 FPSers in one room...
It would be INSANE if we all met at once, so we all meet on different days, with two or three teams together. When you meet with multiple teams, you either meet by yourself or all together, it depends how long until the next packet. We all believe that our strongest competition is from our own school, so if its close to packet time and we are brainstorming and doing practices, we work just with our team, but if we are researching, we do it with all teams that are there.
Yeah, I'm from icklefickle's team, and that's really unfair that you guys get trophies and stuff. I'd definitely say that the best part of our FPS program now -- really just our team and coach of four years -- is the wonderful bond that we've formed as a team. You just can't go to state and international upwards of three times and not have tons of inside jokes and memorable experiences. We've gotten to the point where at some points, FPS seems more like a science when we solve -- we all know exactly what our specific "roles" are.
When I first started out, I would say that our program was great because it was so strong -- we were one of the few schools to offer it as a class to sixth and seventh graders, and our coaches were all incredibely expericened/good at FPS. I think the class really offered the opportunity to try FPS to a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't have that experience.
FPS is great, and its awesome that your team has been together for so long...Teams at LHS get little shuffled every year, due to little fights, and more importantly, gf and bf break-ups--it has ruined 3 teams, I think.
Yeah, we got talking about that after meeting a couple on a team at IC. Not good if you're remotely serious about FPS. Actually, I think it'd be bad enough when they were together...
Hi Natalie! It's cool to have you here. I wish my school had a big, supportive FPS program like that; there's only five of us, and we have to pull all kinds of strings to get things done, but we've been doing it forever and we love it. ;)
I sometimes wish that we only had 5 people--with almost 50 of us, it can get a little confusing and hard to know who everyone is. Its so awesome that you guys love it so much, good luck on your next packet!
I can relate -- since we're not actually an official club, our school (a) won't give us money to go to state/IC and (b) refuses to acknowledge our existence, despite our winning IC last year. We told them with the naive thought that they might announce something about it but nooooooo . . . quite a change from an organized program like we had in middle school where it was all official and school sanctioned and a class and stuff.
