We've always joked about doing a CPS project about recruiting FPSers, but it always seemed sort of silly considering Ohio is overflowing. Our school alone is responsible for instating a state-wide quota of how many teams can qualify for the state bowl, so it's possible to not go even if you score high enough.
However, as to your real question: I plan on evaluating scenarios, actually. It pays and it's fun. And, if I go into teaching, I'd love to attempt to coach, but who knows. [sobs over my last year in the program]
Well, it's not so much score I suppose as it is your rank in two rounds of judging. I just referred to it as "score" because I think of it as a rank 1 and a rank 1 being a score of 2. The important thing is that, in Ohio, you can still rank high enough to technically go to States, but you could get cut off based on how many teams your school entered. I don't remember exactly how it all works out; I think they do a run-off round or something.
I also misspoke when I said it's just our school. Ours and one other district dominate(d) States completely. We still dominate the actual awards, really, but at least other schools get to even go.
Ah. I think we basically go on rank, but we have a "coach's best" rule so that if a coach has three or more teams and none qualifies, the highest scoring/ranking (not sure which) on goes to state.
After 5+ years of involvement with the program, I'd see it extremely hard to leave once I graduate. My hope is that I'll go to college somewhere with an FPS program, as evaluating booklets would be a fun and practical way to be involved post-high school.
