Jonghyun went to reach for Key's hand, but Key pulled it away. “All I wanted to do was show you how much I love you,” cooed Jonghyun.
“I know, Jjong,” Key paused for a moment and looked down at his feet. “I know.”As they stood facing each other in the SHINee dorm, the silence grew, the awkward tension in the air got thicker, and it became uncomfortable for both of them. Key couldn't bare it anymore. “I just wish you would have been careful.”
“I know, it was so stupid of me!” Jonghyun whimpered. His eyes were wide, and asking for Key's forgiveness. His eyebrows heightened and his bottom lip stuck out in a slight pout. He was making that face.
Key looked away, disgusted. He hated that face. Key could never stay mad when his puppy made that face. “You don't deserve to be forgiven just yet, you know,” Key said as he rolled his hip to the side, resting a hand on it.
“But- I just, I was drunk, and at the time it seemed like a really good idea! I mean, I just wanted to show you off, because I was so happy.” A smile crept onto Jonghyun's face. His eye's were still wide and sparkling with “innocence.”
“You are such a handful!” Key groaned and and placed his hand over his mouth. He didn't know what to do with the situation he was in, and he couldn't help it when his mind drifted to the night before.
____
Key!” Jonghyun yelled, waving his arms all over the place. He smelled like alcohol. Key rolled his eyes and gave him a hug as a greeting, then continued to give hugs to the rest of his band-mates. Jinki and Minho decided to throw a party for Taemin's birthday that night. There was booze served but they didn't allow their little Magnae a sip, it was only to tease him. There were more people at the small dining hall where the party was held. It was manly people from other SM Entertainment groups, but only the one's Taemin was close to. Key showed up later on in the evening with the birthday cake everyone was waiting for. Taemin's face lit up just as bright as the candles when the cake was placed in front of him on the table. The lights were dimmed and everyone started to sing. Half way through the song, Jonghyun wrapped his arm around Key's waist pulling him close, earning an awkward high note from the Diva. PDA was not on Key's agenda. Especially not at Taemin's party.
Taemin blew out the candles and everybody cheered. Jonghyun stumbled as he unhooked himself from Key to clap. Key was starting to get a little nervous about how much the other really drank. His reactions were slowed and he was being careless. “Jjong,” Key whispered in his ear, “Calm down a little?”
“Kibum-ah~” He sang back, “Enjoy yourself, it's a moment to be happy, isn't it?
“Sure it is.” Key pulled Jonghyun to the table across from where the cake was being served, and made the short one sit. Jonghyun sat confused for a second and then tried to stand back up. He only wanted to be apart of the fun. Key sighed and ignored Jonghyun when he looked back at him. When he turned back around continued to walk towards Minho, Key noticed Heechul and Jinki setting up the karaoke machine on the small stage up front.
Taemin was the first to go up onstage, smiling and blushing. “I want to thank my Hyungs for throwing me a party! Thanks so much, everything is perfect. I couldn't of asked for more. OH- and thank you Umma for the cake! It's my favorite. You all do so much for me, and I promise that in the future I will do my best as the Magnae and will try to be as good to my Hyungs as they are to me. Thank you for always being there for me.” His speech was concluded with cheers and “aw”s from his audience. A large smile was placed on Key's face, he was so proud of his “son”.
He glanced over at Jonghyun while Taemin was stepping off the stage. He had a big cheeky grin sprawled across his face and Key noticed he had another cup in his hand. 'Oh no', Key thought as he got up and ran to Jinki. “Hyung, don't let Jonghyun drink anymore!” Key grabbed Jinki's arm and tugged on it like a child, “If he drinks anymore he'll be all over the place.”
“Ah, Key, Don't worry! I won't let him, I promise,” Jinki smiled and Key felt a little more relaxed. He would have a heart attack if Jonghyun did anything stupid.
As time passed, everyone enjoyed the karaoke stage. People got up to dance, especially Taemin, and joined the singers up in the spotlight. Key even went up to sing and dance, toasting Taemin a happy birthday before he got down. Sitting next to a super-happy Jonghyun, Key couldn't help but notice the permanent smile on his face. “You're really so happy, Jjong?” He asked simply.
“Of course!” He replied, with his expression twisted in shock. It caught him a little off guard. “Why wouldn't I be happy, Bummie~? I have you here, with me, and I'm at a fun party! Everyone's here together, this is great!” The amount of cheer radiating from the short vocalist sort of creeped out Key, but he couldn't help but smile and put a hand on the other's shoulder. Minimum PDA, he promised himself. There's no way he was ready to share with the world that Jonghyun and him were officially a couple. He hasn't even shared it with the rest of SHINee yet.
Key could see Jonghyun making glances at him in the corner of his eye. He was trying to pay attention to the stage but when Jonghyun placed a hand on Key's knee, he shot up. Embarrassed by his reaction, the only excuse he could come up with was that he was cold and needed to get his sweatshirt from the car. Jonghyun nodded and watched him walk out of the big doors on the other side of the room.
Key misjudged how far he had actually parked and had trouble finding the car. When he threw the hoodie on and walked inside, he was immediately shaken by a worried Jinki. “KEY, I'M SO SORRY, BUT I HE WOULDN'T LISTEN TO ME,” he yelled. It took Key a second to register the situation but his jaw dropped and his eyes went wide as they landed on Jonghyun, standing onstage by himself, singing. His voice was beautiful even though he was slurring the words, and when he sang a note too high, no one even noticed. Everyone was too focused on the practically empty beer bottle in Jonghyun's hand. Atleast, that's what Key thought. No one else really seemed to care, they were comfortable with it, laughing even as he tried to keep his balance onstage. Key was mortified. He had been gone for 15 minutes. 15 minutes which apparently was long enough for Jonghyun to drink almost two beers himself.
The song started to fade out and Jonghyun's voice got a little softer. Key catches eyes with him, but Jonghyun is oblivious to the shocked expression and only smiles back with that goofy puppy-eyed grin. “Kibummmiiiiiiiee~”He half sings into the microphone held in his hands, “I missed youuu~” Key smacks himself in the face and keeps his hand over it, hiding the clearly obvious blush. Everyone was giggling along with the drunken boy onstage. “Shh, you guys don' laugh!” He continues to giggle, “Bummie will be sad wif me if you laugh.” Key watched Taemin and everyone buckle over with laughter. His face couldn't get anymore red. He was so in-shock he couldn't even move his hand away from his face, not that he'd even want to at this point. “Everyone, Everyone!” Jonghyun started to yell, “SHHH. I love you, Kibum, so don be mad at me, k?” Jonghyun swayed to the left and faced Taemin. “Taeminnie minnie minnie, happy birthday!! I'm so proud of you, Minnie!” He cheered before carefully bending down, so not to lose his balance, and placed the mic back on the stage before stepping down. He ran/partially stumbled straight to Key and placed a big fat kiss on his lips. Right. In. Front. Of. Everyone.

Recalling the reason Key is in this situation only made him more upset. That quickly faded though when he looked at Jonghyun once again. It was no longer that killer puppy-eyed look, but it was a sincere saddened expression that crossed his face. “I love you, Kibum. Please don't be mad at me? I won't drink with anyone but you ever again. I love you lots, and I'm really sorry I embarrassed you last night.” His voice was low and serious, and he never broke eye contact with Key as he said it.
Key sighed, and smiled. He'll kick himself for this later, but he just couldn't stay mad at his big-eyed puppy. “I love you, Jonghyun,” he said as he wrapped his arms around Jonghyun's waist. “You big idiot, you're lucky no one thought there was anything deeper to what you said last night. They were only the words of a drunk best friend, and not of a drunk boyfriend.”
Jonghyun smiled ear to ear and hugged Key back, kissing him softly. “I wuvv youuuuuuuu~” he teased. They smiled at each other until they heard the hallway-door handle jiggle. They both took a step or two away from the other, leaving a “safe” space between them. As the door opened all the way, they greeted their band-mates with warm welcoming smiles. Everything is okay. Everything is normal.
