OOC - Infopost: The Longmire Edition

May 13, 2014 14:19

Normally I do the whole infopost and then the backstory. I'm all backwards on this. Let me work through this, okay?

...

Okay. Done.

Longmire!

What is Longmire? It's a mystery of the week TV show based on the novels of the same name by Craig Johnson. And if you've read the books, good for you! I have not. But I've read all the Game of Thrones novels so that has to count for something. Right? Whatever. Rambling. Back to the topic.

The show is about Walt Longmire, a sheriff of the fictional Absarocka county in the not-so-fictional stae of Wyoming. At the beginning of the series he is recovering from the death of his wife who was murdered a year ago. Each episode of the series focuses on a mystery/murder of the week along with several subplots that weave its way through out the two seasons. The underlying subplots revolve around Walt as he tries to run for re-election against one of his deputies and the ongoing revelation of who had killed Walt's wife and whether or not Walt or his best friend Henry actually killed the murderer of Walt's wife. Additionally the county that Walt is sheriff of contains an Indian reservation and there are frequent scrapes between their police department and Walt.

Walt himself is your average laconic sheriff/cowboy who has no qualms about crushing your spindly little Miranda rights under his cowboy boots. It's seriously awesome. In one seen he interrogates a suspect by throwing a raw flank steak at the suspect and threatens to unleash a hungry bear at him if he doesn't confess.

The show is also filled with good but underrated stars like that guy from The Matrix, or that guy from BTVS, that woman from Smallville, occasionally that guy from Robocop and what's-his-face from La Bamba.

Oh, and it also stars Katee Sackhoff as Victoria "Vic" Moretti. I was going to get to that part

And I realize there's a lack of appropriate Longmire gifs in this infopost but the ones I've found online don't amuse me so...

There. Be amused.

Vic

Vicoria "Vic" Moretti is one of Walt's deputies. At the beginning of the series, Vic had only been a part of the sheriff's department for six months. She moved to Wyoming with her husband to ESCAPE HER PAST as a homicide detective in Philadelphia. Turns out she was being stalked by a cop by the name of Ed Gorski. Vic had turned in Ed's partner for corruption which led to the partner's suicide. Ed of course blamed Vic and started stalking her. As you do.

Personality-wise, Vic is a tomboy and is almost always sarcastic. IMHO she's loyal to Walt and considers him a partner while others (Vic's Husband and Walt's girlfriend) think she's in love with him. I'm sure there's plenty of people who ship them but I'm not buying it until it happens on screen.

She's also a bit of a prankster and has no problem pulling pranks against suspects or her co-workers. (In the first episode she tricked Walt to coming to a crime scene because there was a dead body. Turns out it was a dead sheep. Serves Walt right for making her work on her day off.) She's also a very good investigator from her years on the Philadelphia Police force and has had her share of dealing with dead bodies.

If you see Vic she's always going to be in jeans and uniform unless she's off duty. Even then she will probably be in uniform anyway. Actually it looks like she sleeps in her uniform and just rolls out of bed to go to work.

Vic will be coming to Fandom at the end of season two to dodge some of the unethical things she did to her stalker which also will cause Walt and Henry some big headaches. She's also coming here because Walt wants to protect her from Ed Gorski which I hope to avoid because the whole stalkery thing is something I'd rather not deal with but... we'll see how it's handled in season three. If Walt throws a flank steak at Ed and he gets eaten by a bear named Waffles I might go through with it.

Because... Bear.

Oh and finally: Vic is married but she never wears a wedding ring and her relationship with her husband is considered "rocky" at best. Given what happened at the end of season two, I'm sure her husband will be an asshat about it because Vic's husband is a complete asshat.

Questions? Comments? Waffles?
